No. Not remotely.

Top four protection is so low it's hard to give it much value. Even if the Lakers finish with the worst record in the NBA you still have a 50/50 shot of getting the pick anyways and odds are overwhelmingly that removing the pick protection just will not matter in the end.

50/50 shot of it mattering if the Lakers are the worst and that number plummets as you factor in the possibilities that they will not be the worst, and usually it's near impossible to be worst in the league without tanking. There's some value in unprotecting the pick but it's not that much and hard to value

I could see if the pick is lotto protected. But going from top 4 to unprotected is probably worth like a second or two at the most.

No, we would not. Same age as Kessler, but worse, a bad defender, and a terrible fit on our team. He'd fit other places just fine but we hemmerhage points more that we do while downgrading prospects.

Ultimately I don't think Kessler gets dealt this deadline. I doubt any team would meet Ainge's demands.

With that said I do think Utah should trade him, assuming they get a good return, now that it looks like it could be a 3 year tank per David Locke on his podcast. If they keep him they will likely need to give him a new contract while still tanking.

As far as the Lakers are concerned they are desperate for someone to throw at Jokic who has been their kryptonite in the playoffs the last 2 seasons. Kessler has had a very good season esp as a shotblocker but looked kinda rough against Jokic a few nights ago. In his defense everyone looks bad against Jokic so there's no real solution there. Not sure Kessler is worth Ainge's price if Lakers can get someone like Jonas for a SRP (or two).

Jokic went 8/23 with Kessler on him. I'm not sure I expect more than that from any defender in the league.

I think the whole hold up with Utah/Lakers Is basically this ...

Utah want both pics for Kessler, Lakers don't want to use both pics for Kessler and trying to hold up trading both pics.

Lakers need a defensive big, who can give you blks/reb and give AD rest or Bron and play along side of AD and push AD to the 4 (What AD wants)... AD has stated he needs and wants help and Koloko/Hayes are not It - Can you Imagine the defense side of things If you put Kessler/AD together In games when you need defense, oof - Kessler Is the perfect fit for this - I want him so bad, that sound a little dirty lols, but you get my drift.
