Best Wing Upgrade or Player for Rui?

What player do you guys think the Lakers can get for Rui that is an upgrade at the 3/4 or or best player in general?

Lakers can add assets here (picks, swaps, Knecht maybe)

I think Rui is a fine player, but he is more of a 4 than a 3 and not sure if hes ready IQ and game speed wise vs top end teams. Likely better off the bench

Ideally Butler goes to GS or Hou and we can snag one of those 2 for Rui, but thinking of other options

Even if we trade him for a guard. Say we were to do Rui+JHS+filler for Lonzo and filler. Chi takes a shot at Rui if they want

We now have a hole at the wing next to Lebron

Maybe that can be addressed in a seperate deal with pick/picks and salaries

With out looking, what's Bruce Brown's contract? pretty sure I'm thinking of the right player.

They can't upgrade on him, so better to keep him.

Okoro and Niang for Rui and Wood/Hayes has made sense to me for quite some time.

The cost for the Lakers (with Atlanta owning their 25 1st and having a significantly better 4 than Rui) would be counter productive for the Lakers.

I think Brown is tough since he makes quite a bit more than Rui. They'd have to backfill their rotation for any filler they send. Maybe they could do Josh Green and Cody Martin to get a bit deeper?

The premise here is confusing. If it's about landing a better wing using Rui and filler, you're not getting back anything of value. If you're adding picks and Knecht (especially picks) then you might, but then Rui becomes filler more than anything, so to present it as 'Rui based' seems disingenuous. Lakers did well in the DFS trade, if they want to aim higher than that then they're going to go all in with their remaining picks.

Huh? Does a 1st or two + Rui not provide an ‘upgrade on Rui’?

A first or two plus Rui isn't a Rui trade, it's a first or two trade. That's my point. Rui has very little value, so if that's what you meant then your framing of the deal is misleading.

The question is ‘best wing/player upgrade on Rui’, I’d assume it’s asking for what might be seen as the best upgrade on the player for the Lakers, given the cost

I get a little bit of the premise of what you’re saying though, I think the team trading for Rui would have to see him as something of a piece of value. Which I think he’d have to certain teams

The opening question was "Best Wing Upgrade or Player FOR Rui?": "What player do you guys think the Lakers can get FOR Rui"
So that's why I took it as Rui has to be the main piece going out, rather than getting an upgrade ON him (not necessarily with him being the main piece or even going out). It's much easier to do if you go by your interpretation though

To Lakers: Bruce Brown + Jonas Valanciunas

To Wizards: Gabe Vincent*

To Raptors: Rui + Hood-Schifino*

*Fill in picks or swaps as necessary. I don't think any of these guys are worth more than SRPs on the trade market but Lakers don't have many of those in their warchest.

It was in the first two sentences, though.

Lakers can add assets here (picks, swaps, Knecht maybe)

They were clear from the beginning about willing to pay value (picks, swap, or Knecht) to get an upgrade on Rui. Maybe just let it run?

Yes we need to add

The question is, is adding worth it?

I dont think the gap between Rui and Hunter is a good 1st though and the injury history worries me

Would Atlanta want a protected 1st? And is that even possible for us anymore since we dont have our 29 and 31 1sts?
Or a protected swap in 28 and some 2nds?

I see Bruce Brown brought up a lot...pass. Not a good shooter and coming off a knee injury

If Butler goes to a team like GS, Hou, or Den then I wonder if we can get Wiggins, Brooks, or MPJ

If he goes to Mem, I would be interested in Marcus Smart

The dilemna here is what team views Rui as having some value?

Is Miles Bridges even an upgrade? Defense seems to have fallen and not shooting well from 3

BI is the biggest risk, but the fit is a big question mark

Also this all depends on what C and guards are available.

For ex if Kessler is available for a 1st, unprotecting 27, and a couple 2nds/a swap in one of the years with protections (if unable to protect it de to not having a 2nd I think). Then I rather go that route

But if Utah isnt willing to move him, then we can use the assets on an upgrade here and get a cheaper backup C
