Drawing out Butler to LAC, with Det

Post#1 » by jayjaysee » Sun Jan 5, 2025 3:20 pm

You won’t like it?

Detroit: Klintman (buy Moore out)
Detroit: Mann, Richardson, and (Dunn into room exem)

Detroit gets free talent using their cap space.

Miami: Butler, Burks and Richardson
Miami: Powell, Tucker, Hyland, Kobe Brown, and LAC 2030 first (top 6, top 4 2031)

Miami settles for a protected first that will likely convey and complete tax relief. Powell is a vet having a career year maybe helps Bam/Herro convey the first? Bones and Brown are low end prospects.

LAC: Powell, Mann, Tucker, Dunn, Hyland, Brown, LAC 2030 first (top 6, top 4 2031)
LAC: Butler, Alec, Klintman

LAC stays under the first apron, upgrading last year’s trio but this time protecting the future pick in case there’s an aggressive rebuild going on in 5 years.

LAC would have the room under apron to sign 3 (maybe 4?) rest of season contracts. Still have Zu, Nico, DJJ and Coffey. Alec, Bamba, KPJ give some okay minutes. Some buyout luck.

Absolutely not interested. The Clippers were involved in a similar situation just last year when they took a disgruntled Harden from Philadelphia. They paid a king's random compared to this. Easy pass.

gotta find a way to parlay actual talent to Miami. Swing the crap to NoLa and make BI the takeaway for Miami?

That’s a good idea honestly. And probably pretty easy to do.

Kind of makes me wonder if LAC would be better off keeping Mann, Dunn and taking Ingram for themselves? I’d take Butler but imagine it would be an interesting split.

A big part of said kings ransom also was the unwillingness to include Mann, had they been willing, most likely would have been able to avoid the gymnastics to add the extra pick.

Don’t see it for Detroit.

Dunn is a fine backup, would take him

Richardson seems like he’ll just get waived and join a playoff team if he’s dealt or ride it out in Miami

Mann, I’m not sure on to be honest

So, a prospect we like and a first! Good! That's fine with me, but it has to be one we like.

Yeah, I'm def not arguing the value, just a key difference on why the extra pick (I think also a swap went with that? Don't recall), was included.

Not sure if people would've still considered it an overpay with T instead of the pick, if so, then my comment would be irrelevant.

And, fwiw, I was 100% against that move with all those assets

Is it me or is Detroit getting better players than Miami?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Yeah. I thought Miami would prefer Powell and tax relief. But if they’d want to keep either/both Dunn and Mann, it’s easy to make it that.

And I think Harden making so much less (both percent of cap and actual salary), being a year and a half younger probably commands the same/more than Butler, despite Butler being the better player. Though no one expected LAC to give that much anyways.
