Cavs and Bulls

Cavs get: Patrick Williams and Dalen Terry
Bulls get: Caris LeVert, Georges Niang and two 2nds ('25 Bucks, '27 Nuggets)
Why?
Cavs add wings with size. Williams is a gamble with upside and Terry is young, has great length and an improving shooter. We also duck the tax with this trade.
Bulls dump Williams after signing him to a lucrative deal. They get an expiring, a small contract and some 2nds.

If the Bulls are dumping a player, and the Cavs are taking the risk, why is Cleveland including those 2nds?

It's a sweetener. We're also getting Terry, who is still on a rookie contract.

What VP/GM wakes up one morning and says, sure I made a mistake drafting this guy #4 with my first big move in CHI but I just reinforced that bad move signing him to a 5 year deal but NOW is the day I'm going to fix my blunders and dump him for some expiring contracts of useless player and some sexy 2nd round picks.
The Cavs aren't the Lakers, other teams don't grab their phones and rush to the rescue with foolish trades.

Fair enough. Do you not value the fact that you're getting an expiring contract? And you're not attaching anything to dump him?

I'm agnostic on this particular trade (I suspect that the Bulls wouldn't want to toss in Terry like this), but teams sign players coming off of rookie contracts with an eye towards trading them all the time. The Hornets did that with both PJ Washington and Miles Bridges. Even if they're good keeping them, like the Cavs with Okoro, it doesn't mean they're deeply committed to them.
Obviously expiring contracts and 2nd round picks have value. The two in-season trades for DFS and Schroder both had that as the return. If the Bulls believe P. Williams has another step to take and will actually take it, then they shouldn't trade him. That said, he's in his 5th season and if it doesn't happen soon, he could turn into Kuzma on that deal.
