It’s believed Indiana will keep James Johnson.

James Wiseman, while technically non guaranteed for skills, has become gtd for injury, so he will eventually be traded. Last year, minimum salary dumps around the deadline went for straight cash payments, so I would assume the same here, as that would give Indy an extra $2.2m in tax breathing room, as they’re only $150k or so short of the tax line now.

Seems like Detroit would be a good/obvious place to dump Wiseman for cash

Will be interesting to see if OKC turns Jaylin restricted this summer. I would like them to, and it would be consistent with how the team has been operating, but Jaylin might also be a luxury that has to go by the wayside.

I’d bet on them signing him to a deal, though, if I were to guess right now. Maybe similar to the Jalen Smith contract.

Pick(s) maybe, cash no. Why are we eating up our cap space for cash?

Because it’s a min contract so it’s not worth a 2nd.

Taj Gibson should've been cut a long time ago for a functional roster spot, but at this point, might as well keep him as a small trade filler. idc

This is a case where the Pistons might not see the opportunity costs or PR hit as worth it.

Oh, I’d see Detroit an option, but not until the deadline and they’ve otherwise used their cap. Wiseman is a vet minimum exception, so a team doesn’t need cap space to take him in, and he’ll only be owed around $800k at that point, so a payment of, say, $3m would provide a solid profit for a team.

He’d never come to Detroit. The release would simultaneously announce the Pistons acquired cash considerations and waived James Wiseman. No PR issue whatsoever.

The PR issue would be the Pistons selling their cap space for cheap after having been criticized for doing so in the past.

Plenty of teams can fit Wiseman in though. The Pacers might find a team willing to eat him for cash.

He wouldn’t take cap space, so the Pistons wouldn’t have to eat their cap space on him. I assume any team eating minimum deals would do so after otherwise using their cap/TPE and just use the vet minimum exception, or loop it into an otherwise existing trade.

Hate it when people just link Twitter, a media I don't use and don't want to use. Just copy paste the content instead.

Nah, bud. I try and leave it in the writers original form, as they created it. And I don’t want to steal their content to copy and paste whole articles elsewhere.

If Mavs waive Kief, can they sign him in March to prorated deal?

Yup. If player clears waivers, they can re sign them later. No re-acquisition restriction in that manner, so to speak.

I expect the Warriors will probably keep both Lindy and Gui, though Gui is not a sure thing. Mostly I expect them to keep him because he costs less than a true vet min and we only have 14 players under contract as is.

They could clear some cap room by waiving Gui. They can carry 13 for two weeks, even sign a couple of 10 day contracts after that, then sign a rest-of-season vet min. It would give them a million or so more room under the hard-cap. I don't expect them to but I'd be a little nervous if I were Gui. Until 2:00 Pacific time.
