Vuc to SA

Watching an entertaining game the other night between the Spurs and Bulls, I had the idea that SA could use Vuc. Why?
-Wemby is a top 10 player already, but could use more help
-Vuc is playing REALLY well and can share minutes with Wemby a bit
-SA should go for the playoffs, and Vuc's deal is fair (for a marginal All Star center) and it expires next year
-Bulls are looking like a Playin lock again, which means an 11-15 pick to SA and, at best, a 1st round beating
Vuc (and maybe the Port pick) for Collins/Bulls pick back
SA gets an awesome 6th man who can give 30 minutes a night and start when Wemby sits.
Bulls get their pick back and lose more games. Lavine is playing great ball (even on D, solid) so hopefully we trade him too and fall to the mid-lottery
I am fine with the Bulls FO staying the stupid course and falling into the Playin again. I understand the idea of not wanting to tank (financially and culturally) and hoping for a bit of luck in April. I just think we should dump our vets (Coby too) and play the kids/lose games and hope for lotto luck

Vuc for Collins/Bulls pick makes a lot of sense, but no one knows what the Bulls really want.

I'm all for it.
ETA: But it means Vuc as a 6th man and I don't know if he accepts that.

Spurs don't need a back up 5 that badly.

I would agree, but since they both can space the floor and Wemby can guard in space, they can share the floor some. Both are good passers too

Vuc isn't a player you want on a good team. He's a flawed player who helps a 40 win team, not a future contender. If he's free the Spurs would take him as a bench player, though even that is dangerous because it encourages them to play Wemby at the 4.

You're projecting a Bulls FO mindset onto the Spurs FO. They won't move a likely lottery pick for a 34 year old backup center. If you want that pick back, the only player that has a chance of getting you there is Coby White, and I'm not even sure of it. But Vuc? Not snowball's chance in hell at that price.

On defense Wemby would guard the paint and Vuc would be murdered on the perimeter. Pass.

To those that asked, the Bulls know they want that pick back and are pretty sure they want to say goodbye to Vuc.

You're right but the Spurs aren't going to leapfrog to the conference final this year or next. They still have the rest of their roster to sort out. Vucevic expires after next season so he plays behind and next to Wemby for that time and in 2 years Wemby is a definite MVP candidate, they have sorted out their young guys, they look at where they stand with a 40 year old CP3 and they are looking at the conference Finals.

Vuc and Wemby certainly can share the court together, and against bigger centers it's not the worst idea. So long as he plays he meaningful minutes, and the team wins, I imagine Vuc is good.

So why give up a pick they can develop into a player on Vic's timeline for a guy who doesn’t fit and will be gone in 2 yrs?

Because the Bulls will ask very nicely?

Based on last year, I don't see the Spurs taking 3 picks in the next draft to develop at the same time.

I posted this basic idea a couple weeks back. Makes sense to me still.

That was for a couple SRPs, not for a likely lottery pick. Big difference.

The value would get hammered out between the teams. But the basic idea of Collins/incentive for Vuc still seems like a good one.
To me. I know you are more willing to wait and be patient. Which is certainly a fair approach. I just like taking advantage of these cheap Wemby years and being aggressive when you have a player as good as him. No reason to wait because he's young. His injury/I want LA/NT/Miami clocks are ticking. Maybe he's Duncan and lasts forever and never leaves. But just like with Dallas and Luka I wouldn't count on Duncan/Dirk 2.0's.

Bulls can send the Port pick back, if necessary. SA has picks this year, so the Port pick should convert in 27 or 28 (can't imagine they keep missing the playoffs)

I wouldn't have any interest in this. They aren't playing centers because they don't want to, not because they don't have talent at the position. They don't WANT to play Wemby with a center -- that's not an advantage. They aren't giving up a first to be potentially better for a few minutes a night. If this were a case where Vuc was expiring, then you could factor in the savings to next year's cap to make it something worth haggling over. Not this, though.
I second the idea that the Bulls' only chance of getting their pick back would be by sending out Coby White. It's not the the pick has impossibly high value, but the Bulls are in a position where they're trying to build their roster's talent. They don't really have much that would make sense for a team in the Spurs' position.

Makes sense for Chicago to get their pick back so they get to actually tank and hope for Cooper Flagg.
San Antonio should be carefull and patient when they're building around Wemby.
I get that he's already a top10 player, but i remember back in the day when AD was playing with the Pellies and they overplayed their hand and went for the playoffs too soon, which ended up hurting their ability to put a team around AD when he was coming into his own.

It's already too late to out-tank the real tankers. Our only path to Flagg is the way Atlanta got #1 last year... Get knocked out the play in and get extremely lucky in the lottery
