LAL/NOP (Herb Jones trade)

LAL in: Herb Jones, Jeremiah Robinson Earl, Javonte Green
NOP in: Dalton Knecht, Rui Hachimura, 2029 unprotected LAL FRP, 2031 lightly protected LAL FRP
Lakers upgrade at the forward position by acquiring one of the best 3 & D players in the league.
Pelicans begin selling assets during this season to nowhere by turning Jones into two FRPs with a ton of upside and a promising rookie.

If I’m NOP I rather sell other assets and hold onto Jones first . He’s a stabilising presence whether I’m going for title or going rebuild.

We aren’t trading Herb. Not unless it’s for something you are extremely uncomfortable giving up. This isn’t terrible to be clear.

Don't see NO doing this. Taking on Rui isnt being accounted for here

Nah, they're going to give us Herb for Robinson once Mitch is healthy again and we convince Ainge to give us Kessler for Dadiet + WSH FRP :-p
Towns | Kessler | Achiuwa
Anunoby
Bridges | Jones | Okeke
Hart | McBride | Shamet
Brunson | Payne | Kolek

The value seems close, but I don't like the direction for the Pels.

Pels should absolutely take an unprotected first and a lightly protected first from the Lakers for Herb. They just have no path to being real competitive while he's on this cheap deal so cash out on high upside assets.

You can't seriously think always injured Robinson brings Herb. Not sure why we are derailing with this?

Trading 2 first round for herb seems like a stretch. Adding Dalton who probably has first round value seems like overkill. Players who meh shooters are awkward fits next to LeBron.
Lakers just scored 97 points in the modern point friendly NBA lol Jones not helping that.

That's why they'll wait til he's healthy

I can't seriously see NOLA moving Herb, so if we're assuming they're going to do something silly & desperate, why not?

NOP is 24 games under .500. Name a team in their situation who has ever made a move like the one you're suggesting.

I have this as an easy yes for the Pelicans. Herb is a fantastic complimentary piece, but you aren't building a team around him.
Even if the Knecht hype has faded, he's a nice piece to add cheap the next 3 years.
They should immediately flip Rui and sell Ingram to any team willing to take him.
Not sure from the Lakers end. Herb wouldn't really be my target, don't hate it for them but don't love it.

Agree. AD anchors that defense, DFS/Christie also seem like very solid defenders. Think LA needs to add a 6th man who can get a bucket.

This seems like an overpay tbh, also I think Rui has some slight value to us and other teams
Knecht and a potentially very good 1st in 2029 is very fair. Herb has been getting worse it seems like somehow, but maybe just the team is so bad and injured its messed him up too
Give us back the 2031 1st and its more even. I would try and replace Rui with Vincent though. Vincent, Knecht, 29 1st, 26 swap?
I think Sac or Chi would give value for Rui. Would Sac give up Monk for Rui, 2 2nds, and a 28 swap? Or would Utah do Rui+unprotecting 27, and 1-2 2nds for Sexton?
Reaves, Herb, DFS, Bron, AD
Sexton/Monk?, Christie, Vando, Wood?
Still have that big hole at C though....

Any itnerest in Rui?

No and Yes.
I cant imagine Sac trades Monk anytime soon. He resigned with Sac early in the off-season, didn't take any other meetings. He's also Fox's best friend since college, and we want to resign Fox right now. I just don't see a path. If we trade Fox, Monk becomes more of a need. If we plan to keep Fox, we can't trade his buddy.
Interested in Rui, I just haven't found a logical way to make that happen. And also seems like Kings may be more interested in finding a 4/5 rather than a 4/3. Maybe if the Blazers decide to pursue a proper rebuild.
Simons to Lakers
Vando + Huerter + assets to Blazers
Rui to Sac

Pelicans should do this, but again, I'm not sure Griffin has enough runway to travel this road. Even if he does, he tends to value good players way more than picks, arguably to a fault.

How sorry will you feel for them if they get Flagg or Harper this summer?

With their injury history, I might feel pre-emptively sorry for Flagg or Harper...
