Butler Piston another franchise, Suns are next
Heat get Harris, THJ
Heat give Butler
Pistons get Beal, PHX31FRP
Pistons give Harris, THJ
Suns get Butler
Suns give Beal, PHX31FRP
Pat Riley gets to calls Jimmy and tell him that "we traded you for Tobias Harris", that's got to be worth an FRP. Heat also save $10m, they're close to dropping under tax now.
Pistons get Beal as a backcourt partner with Cade, the wrinkle is getting Beal to waive the NTC.
Cade, Beal, Ausar, Simone, Duren - Sasser, Beasley, Holland, Stewart, Reed
Suns get Butler who they covet

Miami needs draft compensation but I'm fine with the players coming back

I also don't think Detroit does this for nothing but that 31 pick

It would probably cause a riot. I'm not even sure if the on-court benefit would be worth it this season since DET is sending out two rotation players who've started most of the season and our depth is shaky
I think this would be fair if Beal had an expiring contract, but no FO should be dumb enough to take on an extra $100M+ for a single distant FRP
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

If Beal was an expiring then i dont think it requires any FRP to swap him for THJ/Harris. Its not like the latter duo is lighting the world on fire

This deal works w/o Pistons using their cap space, so Pistons can sell the capnspace for draft compensation, and then turn and do this deal for 31 1st, and send the draft compensation from cap space selling to Miami.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

But why does detroit sell their cap and give the earnings to heat? The 311st is too little even to start with. Why take another loss?
I really dont see how suns gonna be able to send away beal and pay what heat want for butler.

Beal is a good scorer and fits next to Cade, 31 1st is very valuable, I take it stash it, cap space costs lower than 31 unprotexted 1st from a team w/o draft capital in this decade.

The question is how much value is added with the offsets? Like for this season I think Detroit is owed nothing. Then you subtract the money due Harris and they are definitely owed something and a fully unprotected pick from a team facing years of 2nd apron penalties, with no assets and KD long gone? At a time when Detroit has to be planning to be competing for something?
I get the temptation for the Pistons even if the value is technically short. I also agree with you the Heat shouldn't get value for the Piston's space. Detroit doesn't owe any value here. Suns do.

So, you know Ivey didn't die right? Beal is putting up 18/3/3 at age 31 and making $50million. Ivey was putting up 18/4/4 at age 23 and on a rookie scale. It would be insane for detroit to do a deal like this just to preserve a play-in position for this year.

True, I was being a bit hyperbolic. But the deal is so far off for DET I think my hyperbole is understandable.
While Beal's played almost 900 minutes through this first half of the season, THJ+Harris have combined for 2100+ and 72 starts in the first half of the season. The "next man up" for Detroit who'd absorb the extra minutes are likely non-shooters Thompson, Holland or Klintman, which would hurt the spacing around Cade (which is a huge part of why the play-in looks realistic!) and leave our PF position in dire straits.
As for the money:
- it's an extra $12M this season
- it's an extra $30M for Beal over Harris in 2025-26
- another $57M in 2026-27
adding up to $100M extra in salary for a single distant FRP.
All for a player, Beal, who would ideally be on the bench behind Cade and Ivey next season. So I'm really not sold this is a really positive move in the short term, it's really expensive, it leaves our line-up unbalanced, ignores our greatest needs (PF, backup PG), and messes up our cap sheet for the next 2 seasons.
The more I think about the OP, the less interested I am. Better off fishing in the Gleague for a backup PG.

It's worse than that. You forgot his 15% trade kicker which means he's going to make $7.5 million more this seasonoldncreaky wrote:Godaddycurse wrote:oldncreaky wrote:

Gross. Pass.
Beal to Detroit is entirely antithetical to anything we’re trying to accomplish. If Langdon does anything like this, I’ll immediately lose faith in him as a team-building GM.

We've all good vibes and culture right now. Beal would legitimately ruin that.

Suns need to send another pick to Detroit.

I still don't think we do it. What's more, I can't see Harris/THJ being the package the Heat want for Butler.
