Cleveland and Rockets

Cleveland: Tyson

Rockets: Whitmore

Both teams get a player that is a better positional fit and team makeup. Rockets get an extra year of team control with Tyson. Both were summer league 1st teamers as well.

I don't even know who Tyson is supposed to be. So that's not a great sign. Now I see he was a recent first round pick who seems to have played garbage time and been really ineffective. And he was an old rookie supposed to be ready to play. Almost certainly no longer has first round pick value.

I think Houston might consider moving on from Whitmore and I think they could get a team to give them a late 1st for him allowing them to choose their own prospect and get a full 4 years.

Can't see this at all.

Tyson has an extra year under contract but is two years older and worse, don't think Houston is doing this. Cam has been great after getting back in the rotation

For the sake of saying it, you're not going to find much in the stats, but Tyson has looked composed as a rookie, and if Cleveland was not such a deep team, he'd have a good chance at seeing regular minutes.

I mean Tyson was the best guy on the court for our SL team, is the best guy on the court for our G League team, but rarely plays outside of garbage time for the Cavs because he has all of Wade, Strus, LeVert, and Okoro ahead of him. Any of that sound familiar?

And Cam Whitemore was the MVP of the whole summer league. No one cares. IF Houston wants to trade him then it will be likely for a future pick, not another young guy they cannot find minutes for.

Not like Cam who has been playing plenty lately and scoring 13 a night on 57.7% ts since coming back to the big team. Played 21 minutes in a huge game for Houston last night and was great

Completely unserious argument. Unless he proves something in the NBA, like Cam Whitmore did, the Rockets should absolutely not consider this at all.

Rockets should consolidate rather than getting more picks, I'd expect Cam Whitmore to be included in any outgoing package for a star.

Almost.

It sounds similar to Reed Sheppard, but Reed was the #3 pick and Tyson was #20. Thats a really significant gap, until proven otherwise on court as time passes.

It would almost be akin to saying Reed for Dyson Daniels makes sense, which would not make sense for both teams.

If the Rockets think they found something in Cam, they should keep him. But Cam's in his second year, Tyson is a rookie, and like two weeks ago he basically told the Rockets to start playing him in regular season games or trade him.

Of course that would be the 1st option, but easier said than done. I am saying if they wanted to trade him in a smaller deal, trading for a non depreciating asset like a future pick makes a lot more sense than a less heralded older guy on a rookie deal that will be G-league bound.

I do think sometime before next season the Rockets likely have to choose who they are going to concentrate game minutes into. Jabari, Eason or Whitemore. With Amen making his claim to be a starter the available minutes are shrinking by the game. Rumblings Whitemore is not happy with his minutes already. Maybe they move off of Brooks, and that solves some of these issues, but they seem to like him too much do to that anytime soon.

Cam probably gets traded because of the context (disgruntled, glut of talent), the issue here is that the value is ridiculous. Until Jaylon Tyson proves he belongs, you'll be hard pressed to get a good second round pick for him.

Well, I suspect he'll get a lot more playing time next season when our roster thins out due to Mobley's extension, but if he does show he belongs, the Cavs will have no reason to trade him. He'll be too valuable on a rookie contract.

Yeah, if ANY rookie shows they belong their team will have no reason to trade him, they'll be too valuable on a rookie contract. That's true for ALL players in ANY class. The tricky part is the conditional (IF he proves he belongs, most don't... ever).

I’m not sure if you understand how being on a good team works as a rookie but the Cavs are 1st in the NBA for a reason. Cavs have Mitchell, Garland, Lavert, Okoro, Strus, Merril, and Jerome to play the 1-2 which is the reason he hasn’t played much. The purpose of the trade was to give Houston a big primary ball handler that can backup Green and FVV which Shepard is not. Tyson would likely get more PT on the Rockets than what Whitmore is currently getting there and Whitmore would likely get more run in Cleveland than he gets in Houston because of positional need.

I don't think we need to trade Whitmore to get a ball handling back up. We already have Thompson and Sheppard on top of FVV and Jalen, as well as Holiday deep into the rotation. Whitmore serves an important role for us. He is the currently our primary scorer off the bench. Obviously we'll see how his minutes are impacted when Eason and Jabari return from injury but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I'm not gonna lie. I honestly did not know who Tyson was. I had to go look him up. I can see why Cavs would want Whitmore but I don't think there's any real need for Houston to be interested in Tyson, certainly not enough to give up Whitmore for him.
