Ben Simmons new contract prediction

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:51 am

What do you think his new contract will be (years/money) and what teams might have interest? A contender, as a defensive specialist or a rebuilding team, as a recovery project?

I’ll predict he quits basketball all together. He’s going to be to upset to play for the minimum.

I think he gets close to the non tax MLE

He's worth a shot since his defense and playmaking are useful.

I'm hoping for at least the full MLE, just to see the crying on here and everyone saying "I could do EXACTLY what he does"...

What is the going rate for a triple single machine who cannot hit a three?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

While Ben has had injuries and been something of a mixed bag he has been a positive whenever he is on the floor despite playing with very inexperienced teammates.

His passing and his length are both positive traits.

I could see him getting $5-10 million especially if his next contract is only for one to two years.

If he is available for the vet minimum the Nets will want to keep him if he chooses to stay.

Simmons is many awful things, but the man is still a great defender and passer. Surely he’d have offers in the tax to Non tax MLE range? Albeit, probably only for 1-2 years and/or with team options/non guaranteed for injuries, etc.

Anything more than vet min is an over spend.

It all depends on attitude -- both his, and the team that recruits him

I think Ben's become a role player, 8th/9th guy on a contender, like Westbrook but not as good a shooter (!) as Russ. Brought off the bench as the principal ball-handler, and the only non-shooter on the floor, he could make a significant difference in certain situations -- but if, and only if, he buys into the role.

So taxpayer MLE to a contender is my guess, vet min if said contender is struggling with apron strings

if he actually wants to play, I don’t see how he doesn’t get an MLE offer.. The things he used to do at an MVP level, he still does at a high level and his defense impacts games enough. No one should give him a 3rd year guaranteed, probably partial guarantee on second year and third year fully unguaranteed. But yeah. Full incentives on game/minute played full MLE, 6 mil guaranteed 2nd year, 3rd year fully unguaranteed. Dallas won’t have their MLE but I’d love to have him on the contract.

(I’ll be the last one on Simmons island)

his next contract is likely to be a vet min after Brooklyn buys him out after the deadline.

For next season? My guess is he prioritizes opportunity and an organization that will support him over money. He's young enough to get another big deal if he can get healthy and has a chance to play. He's never going to be the star it looked like he was trending towards, but a guy with his size who can defend like him and has playmaking chops to offset his lack of shooting can still be a very useful cog.

He's someone I definitely want Dallas to look at hard.

yeah...Ben on a cheap deal is kind of tantalizing...he WAS All-NBA just a few years ago....imagine if it worked out. A 6'10 guy who could, at his best, lead the league in assists and be first-team all-defense...Still very young too.

Probably won't...but hmmmmm

*This whole adventure has to have been really traumatizing mentally...I wouldn't be surprised if he went overseas and did really well in a completely different environment.

He almost went for a double double on rebounds and assists last night.

Yeah, I think it's easy (and to a certain extent necessary) to focus on what a guy can't do when he's a max player because he's got to be on the floor 30+ minutes a night and his cap hit limits your options to build around him. Much easier to focus on what a guy can do when he's a low $ role player.

I can definitely see a world where he's fully bought into being a role player and he can be a nice contributor off the bench for 20 mpg as an elite defender and secondary ball handler. Kinda like Kyle Anderson on steroids. Biggest question is Simmons' health -- both physical and mental. Can he buy into being a role player, doing the unglamorous things that a team needs, not starting or closing games (and not playing at all some nights)? Or does he still see himself as an All-Star who should be bringing the ball up the floor on every possession?
