Vote Jokic

If Wemby had been at 28ppg for the season instead of just December I'd have voted for him but he's slowed down a bit in the 5 games since, still has to prove himself as a scorer.

Nominate Davis

I originally nominated Curry but I think I'll edit it to Davis using the same logic that it's a superstar level player at position of need for teams and he's younger than Curry.

V Jokic -- best in the world and there isn't a close 2nd
N AD -- a bunch of teams would think this is the final piece to a contender

Nikola Jokic (3 years, 165.6 million + 67.2 million 4th year player option)

IMO, head and shoulders above anyone else in the league and still likely has another 5-7 years in his prime.

Edited: Nominate: Joel Embiid (4 years, ~$250M left on his deal)

Nominate: Shai-Gilgeous Alexander (2 years, ~$79M left on his deal)

He is the total package and plays both sides of the ball. Seems to be as humble as you could expect from someone who may unseat Jokic as MVP. I don't even think OKC would trade him for Jokic, let alone anyone else.

SGA is on the list already.

V Wemby (detailed elsewhere… I think he has more championship contributions left than Jokic, but it’ll take a while yet)
N Jaren Jackson Jr. (nice deal, great player)

Apologies. I thought it was to nominate who should be #2.

In that case, I'll nominate: Embiid.

I can't stand him, but when he's healthy he is one of the few players that is good enough to build a team around.

VOTE: Wembanyama
NOMINATE: LeBron or Steph $

The #1 spot is a two man race to me, with a large gap to Number 3. Jokic is the best player in the NBA, his game should age well, for as long as he wishes to continue to play. I agree with arguments that he can become a Top 10 HOF guy by the end of his career.

However, I went with Wembanyama because he also has the potential, maybe even the probability, of re-writing NBA records as well. Jokic plays a beautiful game for basketball fans - Wemby is a show for the masses, making individual plays that no one has seen before. Jokic also doesn’t have any interest in being a big marketing guy for the Nuggets or the NBA, but we don’t know that about Wemby.

Finally, I appreciate that Jokic has been so loyal to the Nuggets, that announcing his extension was an afterthought to him. However, I don’t know if/when he’ll get bored with basketball. Wemby has three more years under rookie scale, and then 3-5 more as a restricted free agent. There is the risk for injury, because we’ve never seen anyone like him, playing the same style, but I’ll take the kid that just turned 21 last week.

Vote: Wembanyama. Imagine this offseason, if the Nuggets don't make the Finals; would you, as the GM, trade Jokic for Wembanyama? You'd at least consider it. But I don't think the Spurs would consider trading Wembanyama for Jokic. Obviously every team is different. Jokic is hands-down the best basketball player on the planet; Wembanyama is hands-down the best sophomore since LeBron. Which one would pull a bigger trade haul? It's hard to say. But I'm going with Wembanyama. He's under team control for what, 5 more years at least? And those are going to be great years, and you've got odds to keep him for another decade beyond that. Jokic, you've got a couple of years for sure but no idea what happens after that.

Nominate: Jalen Brunson. All-star in his prime on a very very good deal, locked up for a few years on a discount.
