Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
Hornets acquire Bruce Brown for Cody Martin, Vasa Micić.
Raptors get expirings, team option on Martin for next season plus 7.1 million TPE. Davion Mitchell gets a new deal to be PG2 behind Quickley.
Hornets get a culture changer in place of Micić who is currently a malcontent gumming up the bench offense. In the past 2 games (Suns, Jazz) the Hornets starters have been double digit plus while the bench double digit minus.
Micić is invaluable as a tank commander.
Hornets have 16 second round picks.
Off limits:
32, 33, 2027 Pelicans/Blazers 2nd
The other 13 = fair game

Re: Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
Charlotte shouldn't spend any 2nds on this, but if you give Toronto even one plus the prorated salary savings, I mean how can they pass on a guy they will otherwise be buying out.

Never seen the value in paying for culture setters. You could have PJ tucker for nearly free soon if you extend his career for the vet min.

I think there is definitely value in it. Houston is a good example right now. Barnes and Paul in San Antonio. David West in Indiana was a great example.
But Bruce Brown for 2 months? What is he supposed to do exactly? Sign him for 2/$12M or something this summer...

Position matters here in this case.
I believe there is value in running offense for a bench developing players like rookie Salaün and 2-way contract Moussa Diabaté, sophomore Nick Smith Jr. Even Tre Mann if he ever returns (played only 13 games thus far) learns winning habits with the ball in the hands of Brown over Micić.
And Brown plays for a new contract. Plays with high motor, effort and decent IQ.

Re: Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
Sounds like this is doable with the prize being the 7.1 million TPE plus money for the Raptors. So I guess the 2028 Clippers 2nd swap rights passes as sweetener? And perhaps Martin at 8 million next year may yield a 2nd rounder?

Definitely agree there is big value when the culture setter is also a high level basketball player.
I bring up PJ tucker because its not bout winning games this season for the hornets and he respected. Brown would be chasing a check for 2 months in CHA.

Re: Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
I keep saying a huge contributor to the Hornets dysnfuncional bench is the PG2 running offense.
Micić.
And that dysnfunction hinders the development of 4 young bench players (Mann, Nick Smith Jr., Tidjane Salaün, Moussa Diabaté).
Brown is valuable to their development if he is playing hard for a PG2 contract.

Re: Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
Based on their prior moves this season and last, I think the Hornets have figured out that marginal in-season, win-now moves that secure the 12th seed aren't it. I expect them to continue to strip that roster down and load manage Ball after the all star break.

Little motivation to strip down to the studs when as is we are pick #3 pre-lottery. If all we do is nothing we may just move laterally.
Downgrading from Nick Richards to a development project (Moussa Diabaté) has already deducted from baseline performance. So we can counter with a small addition to baseline.

If you want Brown, you can have him for cap space this summer. If you're paying a 2nd to get off of Micic, I get that, but again I might wait until the summer when he'll be expiring filler in a trade or might just go back to Europe for free.

We have a team option on Micić, so he is an expiring like Martin. This swap is of expirings but gives the Raptors options next year plus TPE.
Micić is hindering the development of the 4 other players on the Hornets bench. Even if for just one half season, their proper optimal development pathway matters to me. And I don't think Brown is some game-changer who costs any significant shift in lottery odds.
Small shifts in lottery odds are not a sound basis for surrendering development of winning habits right now.
If you watch Micić and our bench, you'd see the measurable damage.

Re: Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
Brown isn't a PG though....His most success has been at center on offense and defending wings.

Re: Bruce Brown in Uptown (Charlotte)
I have no idea why Charlotte would do this. Even if Brown is a leader or good in the room, it would only be fro the back half of an already tanking year. There's no way Charlotte wants to make a trade that make them signifigantly better for only this year anyway. If you still want the deal, Raptors would be glad to take a future Charlotte second or two if your giving them out like candy.
