Maxi Taxi - Mavs duck it with Charlotte

Mavs duck tax in trade of Maxi Kleber (2 years) + 38 for Vasa Micić expiring contract (team option). Mavs get some flexibility next year in addition to tax savings.
Hornets add a culture setter that allows them to develop Salaün in Gleague. He's been thrust into action in the wake of an ACL tear to Grant Williams. With uncertainty surrounding Grant's recovery, Hornets would carry Kleber on an expiring next year to extend Salaün's stay in gleague if need be.
Add pick 38 (Sixers via Dallas) to the vault of draft capital.

I think Dallas would prefer having a 20 mpg contributor over ducking tax, but can't argue with the value which is definitely very good for Dallas.

Fanspo shows they duck it by 194K.
Micić fits the THJ trade exception.

they are 500k from the apron so they need to dump ~5.5M or so

Unlikely Bonuses count for Apron but not for tax, Kyrie has 2 mils and PJ has 1, Kyrie is alreay out of the 1st million bonus (Mavs won't win 50)

Yeah, value favours DAL, but in reality, he's the backup PF and stretch 5.

i don't hate the idea of Kleber but most of the time he's a complete nobody these days. this would take more than one 2nd to eat $3.5M this year and $11M next... and Dallas doesn't have more.

Value seems too good for Dallas. But also really a bad idea for Dallas. CLT rightfully demands more, but it’s a trade Dallas shouldn’t consider from the start.
Let’s talk about Powell+Exum+Philly 2nd+cash for nothing and signing a buy out with the last roster spot to duck the tax.
Would be sad if that’s Dallas’ move but feels like a fair offer maybe?

that's a move any rebuilding team with a TPE or cap space would take you up on, i'm pretty sure. Probably don't need the cash either. Unfortunately we can't do it unless we combine it with a separate Martin/Micic trade.

Yeah, I think that’s the deal to get Dallas under the tax trade IMO. The buyout (whoever it ends up being) likely plays a bigger role than Exum in the playoffs.. and it’s not terrible value for the other team.
Think the 2nd is needed because of Powell. He’s only paid a bit over the minimum next year, but no one really wants him..

It works for the Mavs given how many players requiring extensions soon. I doubt the Mavs could find anyone as good as Hardy or Green at that position. But let's talk with the players' asking price approaching extensions first.

Alright, seems Mavs want to preserve depth and despite the trio of Lively, Gafford, PJ, plus Powell in a glass case, prefer to try to both duck the tax and acquire a rotation player in the deal.
So, I propose this alternative Maxi Taxi 2.0:
Mavs
Cody Martin
Seth Curry
Hornets
Maxi Kleber
Dante Exum
38 (Sixers via Dallas)
Mavs have a surplus of bigs (Lively, Gafford, PJ, Powell, Kleber) and on-ball guards (Kyrie, Luka, Dinwiddie, Exum). They exhange surplus for a rotation wing and shooting legend, familiar face S. Curry.
Hornets need bigs (traded Richards without taking Nurkic, Grant recovering from ACL next year, Salaün raw rookie needing extended tour of Gleague) and PG2/3 because Micić is a dead man walking.

This version heavily favors Dallas. So I propose a version that favors Charlotte just as a counter-perspective:

Seth Curry

Better?

Mavs duck the tax, save 11 million owed Kleber next year, 5.7 million this year plus tax.

I think the value here is fine. Same issue remains for Dallas. I know this board just sees Maxi Kleber as a bad contract. He's overpaid, often injured, and often passes up shots on offense he needs to take. But he's still a high level defender who plays half the game including closing games at times.
Not sure Dallas wants to dump him and dilute their first into 3 2nds. Both seem counter to what Dallas should do coming off a Finals trip.
So value seems okay enough. Direction? I can't see Dallas doing this.
