Memphis/Detroit/Chicago Trade

Memphis has hit a bit of a rough patch going 5-5 over their last 10. The Nuggets are closing in on them in the standings. They are reportedly on the hunt for a 3D wing and heavily pursued Dorian Finney-Smith. Meanwhile, we're hearing that Detroit is also looking to make a playoff push. So with all that in mind...

Bulls Trade: Patrick Williams and Torrey Craig
Bulls Receive: Memphis 2025 1st, Toronto 2025 2nd (Via Detroit), Tim Hardaway Jr. (expiring)

Grizzlies Trade: Marcus Smart & 2025 1st
Memphis Receives: Patrick Williams and Torrey Craig

Pistons Trade: Tim Hardaway Jr. and Toronto's 2025 2nd Round Pick
Pistons Receive: Marcus Smart

Another version of this trade could just involve Chicago and Memphis and be Pat for Kennard, Konchar, and the 2025 pick.

Smart is a better player than Williams. And despite being smaller, plays bigger. Craig doesn't play with all their depth. Why are they paying to downgrade and take on that contract?

Can't see this for Memphis on any level.

The version of Marcus Smart that played for the Celtics a couple years back had much, much more value than this -- and DET would have to pay a higher price

The version of Marcus Smart sitting in street clothes and "week-to-week" a mere 3 weeks from the TDL is not getting moved for any value

Far too good for the Bulls. I can see both MEM & DET declining.

Too good of value for Patrick Williams, I would hope CHI would take this and run

Honestly, I would do this without the first, just to dump Williams. I was a BIG supporter of his, but maybe he needs a change of scenery.

He just plays so flat, and must lead the league in "terribly botched dunks"

I think the biggest fallacy here is that Patrick Williams has positive trade value still. I have long liked his potential but on that long term deal and yet another lackluster half of season, I just cannot fathom any one offers anything of real value for him. Maybe a team gives the Bulls a mix of expiring/and no so great longer salary and a 2nd or 2, that is what I envision his high mark right now.

Give me even the shell of this version of Smart with the hope he bounces back and if not is expiring filler next season over PatW everyday.

And I wouldn't say that we were heavily pursing DFS if we were not willing to beat the LAL offer. I would call it we made an offer and the LAL offered more than us. IF we made an offer for PatW it likely something like Kennard/Konchar and a token 2nd.

These trades where the value is good but we’re shipping out our shooters just don’t make sense for Detroit.

We know what we look like without enough shooters. I don’t ever want to see that again.

Ok, that's all fair. Thanks for the feedback.

Grizz counter Santi/Konchar/Kennard for Paw and Craig.

The Bulls will do it when you explain who they get for that MEM pick when they are #3 in the west and how long it takes for that kid to contribute close to what Williams does now. Then point out who is going to be out there for that $31M ?? in cap space you're creating for the Bulls.

That kid already contributes more than Williams by not being a negative.
