ORL Exec of the Year tryout (DAL, UTA, POR?)

Post#1 » by Skybox » Sat Jan 18, 2025 3:11 pm

Just read that DAL is making Gafford available :o presumably for elite perimeter defense…ORL’s frontcourt has been decimated by injuries and has, for years, lacked a reliable backcourt scoring playmaker.

Exec of the Year opportunity for a 3-way with UTA for Sexton (or POR for Simons). DAL is presumably looking for win-now perimeter defense. The other two- picks, prospects, expirings… should be many iterations - starting with KCP, who I value as much as Gafford or more, but have less need for, with Anthony Black on deck (even presuming, as I do, that KCP’s shooting will return)…

DAL sends: Gafford, Kleber
DAL gets: KCP

UTA sends: Sexton
UTA gets: Kleber, Cole, Jett, ORL 25 frp

ORL sends: KCP, Cole, Jett, ORL 25 frp
ORL gets: Gafford, Sexton

This one definitely has flaws but it’s a first try…any better ones?

This one is all for Orlando at other's expense. Not even close. Dallas gives up 2 reliable bigs and gets back an over the hill KCP

POR sends: Simons
POR gets: Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, Dwight Powell, ORL 25 frp (top 5)

DAL sends: Gafford, Powell
DAL gets: Jonathan Isaac, 2 srps.

ORL sends: Isaac, Cole, Jett Howard, 25 frp, 2 srps
ORL gets: Gafford, Simons

Isaac’s value will be questioned but he’s as impactful as anyone, from perimeter to rim and his contract plummets from $25m to $15m going forward, with limited guarantees throughout- he changes a team’s defensive identity whenever he’s on the court. Given his minute’s restrictions, I want to give DAL a little more, hence the srps which may facilitate their next move. I know they’re as win-now as anyone…so I don’t know how else to support that. Thybulle would be great, but DAL doesn’t have good salary-matching unless the can spare Kleber (who POR probably won’t want- maybe the srps sweeten that portion for POR)

Yep…those are the flaws but let’s not get carried away with their relative values. Kleber isn’t much and KCP is as solid a perimeter defender as I’ve ever seen. You’re assuming his slow shooting start isn’t a fluke, but the last decade was. I figured DAL maybe couldn’t spare two bigs…even a mediocre one.

Dallas already have an offensively challenged but decent defensive PF in Kleber. Not sure why they are adding Isaac to him. Honestly dont understand dallas' inclusion in either proposal

I think the value is fine. I trust KCP's shooting to come back.

But now Dallas has Dwight Powell as their only backup center and OMax Prosper as their only backup PF and well that's just not going to work at all. Made worse by Lively missing games too frequently and being a bit foul prone.

Now can Dallas flip Klay for a meh 3rd big? Or Grimes for a rookie contract guy who can play? Probably no to both, at least not to someone good enough.

Would like KCP for sure. But Dallas wing options without him are better than their big options without Gafford/Kleber.

I wish Wendell Carter was movable…not until summer…I maintain that he’s got a lot more to offer than he can show in ORL, next to Paolo & Franz…simple beasts like Gafford and Goga are better fits, if more limited
