Cavs get: Sandro Mamukelashvili, Sidy Cissoko and Harrison Ingram
Spurs get: Jaylon Tyson, Tristan Thompson and Emoni Bates

Why?
Cavs add some tall wing prospects, a reliable back-up big and they duck the tax with this trade.
Spurs take a look at Tyson, who is cost controlled, and they also take a flyer on Bates.

Tyson should only be available in a deal for a player worthy of a playoff rotation spot. This isn't it.

I'm not sold on Tyson, but it's not like Spurs are giving up a core piece, so...

The Cavs aren't going to trade Tyson for players who are unlikely to see the floor in the playoffs. Tyson got real minutes against the Suns yesterday and was solid in them.

The Cavs are young, so ducking the repeater tax makes sense to me. Team is only getting more expensive and they're close this year. It's not like the team shouldn't be contending in 3 years, and pushing back 3 in 4 thing on the repeater tax might make a serious difference.

Who would the Cavs dump? Tyson, Wade, Niang, Okoro, Strus. Strus is the complicated one, the others I think would all be easy to save 3M on in a deal.

I guess the ideal would be Tyson + a few 2nds + one of those guys for a good player who makes 3M less than that combined package.

I do think, OP, that this deal could just be Tyson for #39 in this year's draft and a future 2nd. Cavs duck the tax, get a couple picks and the Spurs get a prospect on the cheap.

Spurs I guess because they get the best asset. Honestly, the Spurs get the 3 best assets

The Cavs could duck the tax by trading TT and a 2nd for nothing and then promoting a rookie G-Leaguer to the main roster on a prorated minimum, as long as Okoro’s unlikely incentives don’t cash in.

They could likely do the same with Merrill and gain a 2nd or two if Merrill is the odd man out in a healthy rotation. If Merrill is going to get squeezed, he’s also probably not in the team’s plans moving forward.

Not every site caught the Cavs stretching Rubio's buyout over three years, which brought us to the current $1.685m over the tax line.

However, Isaac Okoro's unlikely incentives might trigger and if he meets those bonuses the Cavs can indeed be up to $3.2m over the tax line. (No one has reported on what Okoro's unlikely incentives actually are, so I have no idea if he will meet them. About the only ones he'd be likely to meet are improved 3p% or team achievement, as he's already missed more games last year and his low minutes load has decreased all his measurables.)

The Cavs might possibly have to juggle some 10-day contracts depending on exact dates of transactions which I'm not going to micromanage. To my knowledge the Cavs' two-way guys have also been inactive most nights, so they should be fully available in case of injury or rest after the deadline.

Spurs would much much rather keep their guys than Emoni Bates or Tristan Thompson. You may not like them, they may not amount to much (or they might, who knows) but Spurs picked them over other available prospects and I doubt those 2 are going to make them change their mind. The best player of the 6 right now is Mamu, at least for the Spurs side, so I can't really agree there.

Mamu is fine, he's a better player than Emoni but honestly just isn't good in the grand scheme and isn't worth anything.

Cissoko isn't an NBA player and I really doubt Ingram will be either. Neither of those players have any trade value at all.

To be fair, Emoni is just as bad as Cissoko and Ingram but Tyson is a legit NBA rotational player and Thompson is a guy who can soak up some minutes at the 5 and give you + rebounding and hustle.
