Collins or bust!
I think Collins is the ideal fit for us as well, but I have heard on multiple podcast/radio shows that John Collins isn't really available without a serious over pay. Danny Ainge likes to play games and string teams along.
With the reports that the kings aren't willing to meet the Nets asking price for Cam Johnson and John Collins being unlikely I think our best option is a trade with the wizards.
We could get both Valanciunas and Kuzma in a deal:
Heurter, Lyles, Mcloughlin, Colby Jones, Len and 2 second rounders
for
Kuzma and Valanciunas
Wizards save money now and in the future with this trade and pick up a couple second rounders.
For the love of god no Kuzma. I cannot see a single use for Kuzma.
Here's my breakdown of the team. We recently promoted Monk to be the lead guy, between Monk, Derozan, Sabonis we are already seeing that Fox needs to adapt to be effective. Adding Kuzma is just another guy who wants to play Demar/Fox role, but hes not nearly as good, so any shots he would be taking would be better served by these guys.
I kind of feel the same way about JVal to be honest. He is a post up player that cannot play a single minute with Sabonis. So we are paying for an elite backup center to play 12-16mpg off the bench. When Sabonis is out, that usually means Monk is out and Fox is the one running the team. JVal + Fox, doesn't really sound like a good pairing. The best pairing for Fox is when he has 5 out with Lyles/Keegan playing in the front court. So knowing that the backup center is going to play all his minutes with Fox, it really needs to be someone who can shoot the ball, or at a minimum someone who brings a different skill like rim protection. Jval while being a good player, doesn't fit the current needs of the roster.
Collins is great because he fits with every variation of lineup.
With Fox, he can be a small ball center who spaces the floor or crashes the glass.
With Monk he can be a secondary pnr threat.
With Sabonis he can bring size to help with rebounding, stretch the floor, or cut for elbow sabonis passes.
I'd pay the cost to get him. He produces better than Kuzma and has a much lower usage historically.
If we can't get Collins or Cam Johnson because the price is too high, i'd be fine pivoting to Boucher, Jalen Smith, Patrick Williams, Caleb Martin.
I'm less concerned with adding big names for the sake of big names. We have our top 4 scorers and we have 4 rotation defender/shooters. We need to add guys that clearly fit/upgrade the defined roles we have available on this team imo.
