UTA / PHI / MIA - Getting off PG

Post#1 » by bkohler » Thu Jan 23, 2025 4:49 pm

UTA IN: PG, PHI 26 Top 10 protected
UTA OUT: Sexton, Collins
Why: Take a swing on rehabilitating PG while getting paid to eat a bunch of salary.

PHI IN: Butler
PHI OUT: PG, 26 1st (Top 10), 27 2nd.
Why: Get out of PG's deal and bring back Butler to hopefully kickstart Embiid.

MIA IN: Sexton, Collins, 27 PHI 2nd
MIA OUT: Butler
Why: Move Butler for players with some positive value who could thrive in MIA's culture but not kill cap space long-term after next year, as they'd both become expiring deals.

It's a gamble for both PHI and UTA. UTA gambles that PG, with some time off and getting away from the dumpster fire that is PHI right now, will look much better, and someone will want him in the next two years, maybe as soon as this offseason. PHI gambles that Butler will bring a culture and vibes shift, and if he doesn't, you're set to not extend him this next year and restart around Maxey the next offseason.

I mean, I love it for Miami but I don't see Utah going for it.

I can't see UTA taking on the PG contract without significantly more compensation. Frankly I'd rather cut PHI out of the deal.

I think PG's player option for '27-28 would kill the deal for Utah. I think the Jazz will tank another two years so could eat a bad contract for those seasons but PG's deal runs one year too long.

This can be drawn into a four (or five?) team trade and PG can end up in Dallas if the Venetian is willing to spend..

Would just be a bunch of 2 year money if you get LAL to do Rui/Vincent for Gafford/Klay and you flip Naji for something. Or just keep him..

No idea what the actual value looks like, but I’d do this without the Butler add on..

Kind of a major issue that Lively is out… But if you can make play-in and run Lively, PJ, PG, Kai, Luka?

Sounds fun at least to me.

sixers 26 frp can't be traded because their 25 and 27 already are. if you're talking about the 26 frp they got in the harden trade it's the worst of like 3 or 4 teams one which is okc so there's very little chance it'll even be in the teens let alone top 10.

Makes far more sense for the Mavs than for the Jazz.

Utah passes. Need more compensation to take on PG and send Sexton/Collins.
