Drawing out a Dallas/PG trade

Not a good or realistic idea? That’s fair.

Dallas: Gafford, Klay, Maxi, Marshall, Grimes, Powell, Philly 2nd
Dallas: George, Bona, Yabu, Gill, Baldwin 2026 LAL swap rights

Too big to be serious? Probably. But if you make the playoffs you’re a matchup no one wants. And you keep that starting five for next season.. doesn’t stop a tank as that center rotation might cause one.

LAL: Rui, Vincent, Knecht, JHS, 2026 swap right
LAL: Gafford, Klay, Grimes

LAL upgrades the two positions of need while adding an overpaid HOF shooter to replace their rookie.

Washington: Baldwin, Gill
Washington: Vincent, Powell, 2026 first (worst of a few teams including Philly/OKC)

Washington finds a way to get a first for taking on salary. It’s a bad first, but really they probably should only be getting 3 seconds so they are happy.

Philly: PG, Bona, Yabu, 2026 OKC first
Philly: Rui, Maxi, Marshall, Knecht

Philly gets some okay forward depth, prospect and under the tax in a Paul George trade?

Fifth team (Toronto) : Top 55 protected 2nd
Fifth team : JHS and Philly 2nd

(cash should be enough but I didn’t want to get yelled at)
Get a top 40 second for cheap. This is too good but seems worth it in a deal this big.

Klay and George aren't getting traded. You don't sign guys in the off-season to deals then move them a few months later. Unless you don't want any free agents signing with you in the future.

They literally just traded a bigger brand new FA deal in Grant Williams last year.

Yeah, I don’t really see that. RealGM gets so excited for Dec/Jan 15th due to new contracts being trade eligible…

But for these two specifically? I don’t see it at all

Klay is being traded to a better situation. The lakers wanted to sign him and he wanted to play there. He grew up a Laker fan.

As for Paul George? I didn’t think Philly would trade him either. But half the forum (and a good amount of Sixer fans) think Joel is done being an MVP level player. And PG likely wouldn't have gone to Philly if that was the case. He would be a pretty perfect fitting piece completing one of the best few starting fives in the league. Maybe the best depending on how he performs.

I agree in principle that you don't want to go around trading guys places they don't want to go after just signing them as free agents. But Klay and LA doesn't see likely to be an issue. And Paul George chose Philly because they were the only team willing to go 4 year max. He might not mind going to a recent NBA Finalist having already secured the bag?

Not telling anyone to support the deal or not, but I don't think that's a major specific concern here the way it could be in some different situations.

One hell of an ambitious trade. Kudos for that alone.

And... I kind of like it.

This might be a deal breaker but I can't imagine Philly trading PG without at least getting back PJ Washington or something. Not saying Dallas should do that, but this is a complete "I give up" trade on the Sixers side, and you're not going to see that for another year or 18 months. Or if Embiid's injury situation gets so dire that they basically have to rebuild

I think the package Sixers get is “positive” value of close, so not really selling rock bottom.. I don’t see how they can demand PJ given they paid Paul George what they did.

i mean, they'll demand it, doesn't mean they will get it.basically, they're not going to trade PG for a backup to Embiid and toilet water

i misread the in/out for Dallas as Philly's. they're still not getting anything here particularly interesting and would decline this comfortably. In general I just don't think there's a trade to be made unless someone is giving the Sixers a nice rebuilding piece, or a different overpaid star with a thousand question marks.

Rui plays over 30 minutes a game on a good team. Marshall is a solid backup forward. Knecht is at least a decent prospect. I don't know, that feels important to note besides just mentioning Maxi as a backup center? :D

Maybe I’m too high on Yabu but I’ll take him , George and LAL swap easily over Dallas package.

George back in LA on a different team felt off and it’s tough to match.

But Butler ideas have shown it is possible. And Reaves would be more valuable than anything Dallas sends out so should offset Vandy inclusion. Just end up using Knecht to dump Vandy. Reaves, Rui, and Vincent to Philly? Need to find some guard help for LAL, but still possible.

I was more so saying the value seems to favor Dallas than trying to get George to LAL.

Current frame work fine imo. Think Philly should get the LAL swap IMO

I don’t think Yabu holds that much value due to his contract, but I definitely valued/targeted him in a deal where Dallas is left without an NBA quality big besides PJ for the next couple months..

Maybe the swap was asking too much. Dallas keep the Philly 2nd and gets a 2nd from someone instead?

Maybe Washington gives the GSW 2nd to Dallas? And LAL pays to dump JHS, which shouldn’t cost a good 2nd anyways honestly.

Whats up with all the suggestions of getting mavs some over the hill old farts lately? Mavs trading 5 of their usual rotation for an injuryprone old dude on a maxdeal is a disaster. Hasnt it been proven by now that u need depth, and 3 huge deals doesnt work anymore? Just ask denver phoenix lakers and so on how it is having no depth outside stars. No surprise mavs okc boston cavs been performing. Cant ask stars to carry g-leaguers for 82+po
