-Collins gives Hornets a starting calibre 4 as they clear up glut of wings
-Bridges give the Jazz a starting calibre wing as they clear up glut of 4s

This deal could be completed once the draft dust settles and I assume JC will exercise his player option

-John Collins (2 years, $53.2 million)

To Utah
-Miles Bridges (2 years, $52.1 million plus $22.8 million player option)

With the injured Williams and the developing Salaun, the Hornets add a starting calibre 4 in Collins as Hornets clear up glut of wings

Jazz get a starting calibre wing in Bridges as they get greater roster balance and move on from glut of 4s

Utah should never consider giving up the better player on the better contract who comes with none of the baggage without incentive.

Charlotte does this so fast while giggling aye their good fortune.

I think Bridges is the better player, but your point about baggage is real.
Assuming Jazz want to compete in the future, you don't want to tie up money on a situation like that.

I'd rather send Green + Micić (expiring) plus 33 & 34. If Ainge insists on one 1st for Collins, or considers 33 & 34 not equivalent to a 1st, that's fine. I'm out.

Keeping Miles Bridges though. Contract goes down to 25 next year, 22 the year after.

I have this as closer than Chuck mostly because I don't have Collins as the better player. They're both bad defensively, but Bridges can create in a way that Collins just can't.

This is true and Miles' baggage is not costing the Hornets.

I like Collins though, but because he doesn't move the needle much, I'd offer 33 & 34 as equivalent to a 1st. Tops. I'd attach the 1st equivalent to Green + Micić.

And while I'm an early adopter of dumping Salaün, with many fans still clinging to hope, I'd be willing to trade Josh Green + Tidjane Salaün. I don't think the front office would do that. And Ainge is probably savvy enough to know Salaün could turn into a bad contract fast.

I'm still not sure the Jazz do it. The baggage is real and they already have Sexton who has many of the same on-the-court attributes/flaws as Bridges. I just don't know what the plan is in Utah. Do you want to win 28-32 games next season, or do want to win fewer than 20 games and aim for the summer of 2026 as the escape velocity target? Lauri, Sexton, and Bridges score enough to win you 30 games. It's just that you're not getting stops so you're going to lose 50.

For one year, then Collins is expiring baseline salary for an upgrade who plays both ends. Hornets will have 6 firsts available for trade to attach to his expiring deal.

Bridges contract isn't a player option in year 3. I still think Bridges is a better player and have no real interest in buying Collins at peak value shooting 45% from 3.

I know you changed the players but Bridges extra year of money is why Utah says no. Utah will most likely be tanking this year and next year at a minimum. Then in 27 they evauluate if they need to tank one more season or not. And having the books clear of Collins, Sexton, Clarkson is perfect timing to see if they want to rent their space for one more year or go after a player or combination of players.

I disagree. If Green's contract was expiring it's somewhat attractive; If it was just for next season... doable. But it extends beyond the summer of 2026, something that Jazz insiders have said that they're actively avoiding. To take on that money, Utah likely would want additional compensation.

No need for additional compensation, many teams will happily trade you 2 years contractnfor Green 3, Lakers for example will Vincent...
