V Chet
N Garland
Injury makes this hard to properly assess, but I’m of the opinion that Chet’s career looks more like last season, where he played every game, than it does the couple of somewhat freak injuries he has had.
If that’s the case, he’s a DPOY runner up to Wemby and has a ton of offensive abilities to still explore. He is extremely hungry, physically gifted, and has a very high BBIQ and sharp fundamentals.

Vote — Chet
Nominate — Sabonis, 98th percentile EPM (7th overall), still relatively young at 28, locked in three more years at <30% of the cap w/ no PO.
Embiid still doesn't belong anywhere near this list.

Trae
I think the next two nominations are not that problematic, to be honest, it should be LaMelo and Trae in some order. Really, only the question of what to do with Embiid complicates this - to me. I love Garland, but I don't think he belongs in this conversation before Ball and Young.

Really don’t understand the Chet votes. Two major injuries in 3 seasons and has played 92 out of 208 possible games and going to miss a lot more. Factor in his frail frame too and there’s no way I’d trade top 15 player value for him, that could be a franchise killer. For OKC keeping him it’s fine, but to trade the farm for him? No way in hell.

I went Maxey over Trae. LaMelo is too injury prone for my taste, and Trae is just way too much of a defensive liability regardless of his offensive abilities.

Good contract, good production, 2-way player, star potential while willingly to serve a side role, young, both rebuilding and competing teams would bid on him, and potentially the best option for competing against Wemby long term.

Maxey is a reasonable call. Regardless, I just don't see the argument for Garland as the next guy up.

I don’t think you can build a winner around Trae without some serious roster contortions, but he’s very marketable and skilled and should be up soon. LaMelo is quite similar, but trades the size problems for injury problems, which is even worse. That and he’s clearly immature off the court.
While it’s clear from the votes Chet will place soon (now, perhaps), I strongly disagree. It’s one thing to be tall and thin with no injury history like Wemby, it’s another to be tall and ultra-thin with two season-ending injuries (or close to it) already. This last one was just a fall, a fall he’ll likely have many more times. There’s just nothing on him to protect his bones. He’s an amazing talent, top ten easily, but I’m very confident he’s going to miss a ton of games over his career. To be himself, he needs to be relentless, but that just adds to the risk. I’d rather have his teammate, Jalen Williams.
