With Okongwu, why would Atlanta want to pay firsts to add 2 centers going forward and a PF? Like, they’re just finally clearing up the center log jam.

I don't think the Hawks should invest in Claxton like this. They've moved OO to start and if that works, it really helps them operate under the tax line with Johnson's big contract kicking in and even allows them some flexibility to go add a 3rd major piece.

Nets would ask for more than the Hawks should give. Claxton is an average at best starting center making good starter money so there is really no excess value there. He's fine for a team who needs a starting center and they should pay a little something to turn other salary into him, but I don't think Atlanta should be that team. Maybe this off-season if OO proves not up to the job, they could re-visit, but not now.

He turned a corner a few weeks ago and is currently playing as good as Clax ever has. A little early to know for sure if this is sustainable but I think it is worth it for Atlanta to hope it is and not invest anymore into the center position. They can get a center in FA next season or draft one as a backup. I have OO on his contract just as valuable as Clax on his.

He's been inserted as the starter the last 4 games. Hawks need to determine if he's capable of being the full time starter going forward.

I don't see why the Nets would trade their entire frontcourt in one transaction. People too often include Clowney (especially) and Sharpe as mere throw-ins, and I don't believe the Nets would entertain deals that value them as such. Capela & moderate asset for Claxton would appeal to me. I don't speak for all Nets fans, but I'd prefer to move Claxton for some value, re-sign Sharpe for less, and use one of our 5 2025 picks on another big to develop. Marks' MO is to draft a big every odd year, so he's due this year.

That Sacramento pick is very intriguing, but is starting to look very risky (may never convey as a 1st if they deal Fox). The '27 worst of MIL/NOLA pick seems like an asset with a little bit of upside that would at least be a near lock to convey as a 1st.

Claxton isn't the right fit for atl due to his smallish frame. Hawks need a real paint anchor that has the ability to control the boards.
