Looney/Payton for Williams/Banton
Ill offer this idea for:
-Warriors to get below 1st apron to create more trade flexibility
-Blazers get out of the Williams contract for next year as they have 3 guys under contract for '25-26 to play the 5
To Golden State
-Robert Williams (2 years, $25.7 million)
-Delano Banton (1 year, $2 million)
-2027 Portland 2nd round pick (31-45 protected)
To Portland
-Kevon Looney (1 year, $8 million)
-Gary Payton (1 year, $9.1 million)
Why?
-Warriors get out of the 1st apron as this frees up flexibility for another deal and they get back a 2nd for money they take on next season in Williams
-Portland creates more off-season flexibility as they have 3 other guys to play the 5. The Blazers could flip Looney again closer to deadline for a team that wants a big on a reasonable expiring deal.

Re: Looney/Payton for Williams/Banton
I love it for us but I don't see the appeal for Portland unless they really just want to get out of Timelord's second year
(also GP2 would have to be bought out/cut immediately, there's too much bad blood between him and Portland for him to ever set foot in the arena)

zero interest from Portland. There's been plenty of teams willing to offer 2nds for RW3. Here you have Portland paying one? No chance.

Pass for POR.
Not paying to dump players other teams might give assets to get. Also GP2 won’t be returning to POR in this lifetime.

Warriors iirc are already under the apron. They're close to being under the lux tax. Doesn't really help them, especially when those expirings are more useful for other trades

Re: Looney/Payton for Williams/Banton
I don't think the value is that bad, but I'm more bothered by his lack of availability and less certain of his impact in the minutes he does play than most. I think he's a good backup center/bad starter when healthy. But he's never healthy. So I think paying one 2nd to get out of his last year is fair value.
Doesn't mean I think Portland should pay to dump him. They shouldn't. Just my issue isn't value.
I think the Warriors need someone more dependable.

Doesn't seem like a good idea for either team actually. On paper, I don't mind it for GS, but Williams is just too injured. Portland shouldn;t be shelling out picks to move him either, they have no need to be impatient on a smallish 2 yr deal. He'll be valuable next year as an expiring.

The value is awful for POR. Zero incentive to do this deal. I seriously doubt that POR is trading RW3 away for anything less than a 1st or a young player they are interested in.

I am not convinced RWIII pulls a FRP but he should get 3 SRP or so and this has us paying to move him - and all reports show PDX doesnt see him as a 'move this contract' type player.

We're talking about a guy who has played 17 games this year and 58 in the last 3 years. No one is giving up a first for a guy who simply cannot stay on the court.

No argument from me.
I was saying that all reports indicate PDX isnt trying to dump him. They want a FRP (Not happening) but I can see them settling for a Schroder type SRP deal.
If that doesnt materialize PDX seems fine with keeping him around (Which I personally want - we should be spending all our time trying to move Simons, Ayton and Grant).

My brain computed this as the Blazers receiving a 2nd and my internal response was no.

RW3 has played 17 games this year by team choice, not b\c he was injured. He has been healthy relatively all year, POR has a logjam at center, not enough minutes to go around and they don't play him back to backs (load management). He is the only center on the market who when he plays is a difference maker on both ends of the court.

and if you guys are wanting to move Simons, Ayton and/or Grant, RWIII can be used as a filler or expiring for a bigger fish as well. His contract is probably move valuable than his on-court value from here on in anyway, the guys body has fallen apart.

I don't think Portland is looking for a bigger fish. A bigger contract than those guys mean a player who is a difference maker, and the Blazers team is just not ready to go for it.

I mean if this is true, it's moronic asset management from Portland's front office. Play RW3 and highlight his value so you can trade him for more.

Re: Looney/Payton for Williams/Banton
It is moronic asset management, but then, look at their roster composition, look how they have 3 lottery picks coming off the bench, playing fewer minutes behind vets with no long term role on this team, look at the contracts they have signed guys to for or traded for. Pretty much par for the course.

What’s the book on Simons? Don’t see many Blazers games, but the Warriors are in dire need of some scoring punch at the 2 guard slot

He can do that. He just can't defend. I'd give him away cheap (not free).
