Revised to be more boring: Nurkic to Charlotte

Adapting Hornetjail's better idea
PHX trades: Jusuf Nurkic, 2025 CLE 1st, 2025 DEN/PHI 2nd (less favorable)
CHA trades: Josh Green, Seth Curry (or DaQuan Jeffries), 2025 NOP 2nd

Phoenix flips Nurkic for a rotation player by moving down slightly in the draft. Charlotte moves up a little and gets off the last year of Green.

Old
PHX trades: Jusuf Nurkic
CHA trades: Grant Williams, Seth Curry (or DaQuan Jeffries)

Phoenix trades a guy out of their rotation for a player that is out for the season, but they do add ... a deep bench guy?
Charlotte trims the last year off Williams' contract.

I feel like the Suns really need to get back more than Seth Curry for this season. KD doesn't have that many more high level seasons left.

Part of me says "yes," but the other part of me thinks that they have enough salary available elsewhere to package with those late firsts that this could be okay. Royce at 9.4 million, Allen at 15 million, and you don't have to send a pick just to move off their deals (obviously they are also good rotation players).

Nurkic could water down the value of those picks enough that your outcome is actually worse attaching them to him than it would be moving the other moveable guys. e.g., the most natural Nurkic trade -- to me -- is Pat Williams. But Pat Williams is also not a difference maker, and to get better than him you are adding several picks, I think?

EDIT: To add, I could see some appeal to - if the playoffs don't go well this year - at least you've flipped Nurkic for someone that can definitely be a rotation player next season without trading those picks in the same deal.

I'd trade Green before I traded Grant, I imagine Phoenix prefers that as well since he can actually play basketball this season

Would Green + filler for Nurkic be on the table without a first? B/c that makes a ton of sense for Phoenix if Charlotte just wants the salary gone.

could we trade the lower of CHA/NOP 2nds for the CLE 1st? Realistically it's an insignificant swap (34 for 29 as of today), but i'm hoping for any kind of value

That seems reasonable to me & better than my bad idea

Nurkic + 2025 CLE 1st for Green + Curry + 2025 NOP 2nd + maybe a future 2nd?

i don't think there's any reason for us to add an additional 2nd. If anything, I think that 2nd needs to come our way

Revised the opening post to be this trade b/c it is better.

Green is better because he plays but they don't need more guards and so further diluting their assets here still feels like a mistake.

Now Nurkic for Green no picks if you have a way to flip Allen/pick(s)? for a good big and then okay maybe.

I just don't see good options for Nurkic, tbh. This gets someone playable and moving Allen with picks for better depth seems a lot more doable. But, there's probably something out there I'm not seeing, I'm just trying to figure out what Phoenix does after making this deal with Utah while apparently not having anything lined up.

No for me. Rather have Green for 3 than Nurkic for 2. I have Nurkic at negative value costing a 1st round pick to move. There's no way Green should cost anything to move. I have him at neutral value on his contract. Suns are looking for high level rotation players for Nurk and one who played in the finals qualifies. He's 24 and shooting 41% on 3's and playing with high motor on defense. That's not negative value at around MLE.

+1 for revising to be more boring.

Green doesn’t get minutes on this team. Not trading a first for this return. TBH suns might be best off if Nurk relationship gets repaired and he becomes our backup center.. and then we have a big expiring in offseason which might have some positive value.

I don't think he is worth the MLE, he is more of a BAE guy. But I respect preferring someone who has a realistic chance of being in a rotation to not.

Phoenix should do this if they have an Allen deal lined up for a center. Don’t think they do it on its own.

CLT should do it.

I feel like Green is a KCP kind of player where he can take a very defined role next to a superstar that takes all the touches (Luka, LeBron, Jokic) and be an MLE-ish guy but is pretty worthless when he's not.

LaMelo is being given that kind of burden but really isn't that kind of player.I think maybe PHX can make that work with KD/Booker/Butler or KD/Booker/Beal, but think Denver is the best destination for Josh Green

Not interested in anymore players under 6’5 but I can see swapping the Cleveland 1st for the 2nds at the draft if we don’t attach it with Nurkic for another player.

They should’ve got back better 1sts but the 2031 1st pick would’ve been frozen after the deadline if they didn’t get out of the 2nd apron. This also unlocked the even years 1sts to be traded as well. People think all we had was the 2031 1st but we still have 26,28,30. It’s actually a solid move due to the circumstances but they should’ve got at least 1 2nd least favorable 1st.
