Denver/Indiana/Detroit 3 team trade

As a Denver fan I’m desperate, hear me out.
Detroit in: MPJ
Detroit out: Tim Hardaway jr, Isiah Stewart, 2027 FRP
Denver in: Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith, Tim Hardaway jr
Denver out: MPJ, Dario Saric, Julian Strawther
Indiana in: Isiah Stewart, Julian Strawther, Dario Saric, Detroit frp
Indian out: Obi Toppin, Aaron Nesmith
Why for Detroit - whilst you lose two decent ish role players, you give Cade a left 6.10 shooter to space the floor and grab rebounds.
Why for Denver - self explanatory, lots more depth. Nesmith improves the defence, Toppin for some athleticism off the bench and Hardaway for some badly needed shooting.
Why for Indiana. Lose two solid role players but gain one half decent one back in Stewart, a promising young player in Strawther and a frp. Indiana probs the least happy with this trade, so welcome views on how to strengthen it!

MPJ on that deal doesnt have this type of value, and Det wont give up a first for him

This isn't a "desperate" offer- the value we're giving up for MPJ is way above what he's actually worth. He's not worth the first and Stewart is actually valuable to us too as our only strong rim protector.

Fair enough. Must admit haven’t watched much Detroit this year so was v unsure how highly Stewart is valued by them. Sounds like a little more than I’d thought!

It begins anew!
Seriously, though, I’d like to have MPJ in Detroit with Cade. But not at this price, and not on that contract.

To the field- what is the general consensus on the value of MPJ?

Indy's priority is to make room to re-sign Turner. taking on multi-year contracts is counter-productive.

We actually save a little under 2 Million next year in this deal and even more money in 2026-2027.
This return is quite good if you aren't high on Nesmith or would rather develop wings from within in Sheppard/Strawther.
I think the deal falls apart when Detroit isn't going to give up this type of value for MPJ and we are the ones who are getting the value they send.

Yep. I wonder if on balance makes sense for Denver to be giving the first to Indiana… although don’t think they have any tradable firsts

Indy could best use a 2026 FRP but neither Detroit nor Denver have one to trade.

Stewart is a great acquisition if you're trading Myles, or letting Myles walk this summer. If the plan is to keep Myles, I don't love the add? The Saric add is just a negative for Indy either way.
Also, I'm a big Nesmith believer, so I kind of hate the swap for Strawther.

Detroit counters with THJ, Fontecchio and a couple of seconds.

Pacers could have interest in Fontecchio

I did a double take when I looked up MPJ's contract. I've had it in my head as "bad contract", but it's actual aged much better than I thought. Still overpaid, but with guys getting over $50 per year now, it's no longer in that untouchable category.
From a detroit fan, I'd love to bring him in, but any talks of trading our 1st just DOA. We do have like $14 mil in free cap space to work with this year though, so we can do things like just absorb saric or swap out a lower paid fontecchio for stewart.

This is the first MPJ trade on this board in forever that I haven't instantly hated. I wouldn't want to give up Strawther but this isn't all that bad. Actual good players instead of other teams trash just to provide theoretical "depth".

This trade feels like it is way too generous to Denver.

For those too lazy to look at up:
MPJ has two years after this one at ~38 and ~41 million, fully guaranteed.
He’s shooting better than ever. Passing a little more. Rebounding a little less. Defense is still mediocre as hell.
That’s still just a lot of money for a shooter. A big and fantastic shooter, no doubt, but since his rebounding and defense remain meh, he’s still a giant SF defensively.
Like I said, he’s a good fit in Detroit, and since we’re down to 2.5 years left, the injury risk on the contract is slowly abating. But he’s still overpaid.
I’d definitely take him for free and maneuver other salaries. He’s no longer a negative contract in my eyes. But this particular deal has us sending out two valuable things that we shouldn’t (the first) and really shouldn’t (Stewart, our best defender along with Ausar).
If you want to save a year and some money, we can trade Tobias Harris. I bet Jokic unlocks him some, too. Fontecchio is fine, too, or THJ (not both). The TOR second in this draft would be available, but not a future first.
In general, I still don’t think Denver can get the value they’d want out of a MPJ deal. His fit with Jokic is exceptional, and the league knows that. No one else is going to want to pay 40 mil for a guy that has one (very) strong skill.

Honestly after watching todays flagrant, get Stewart off my team.
Still don’t want to give up a first here though, and I can’t imagine he endeared himself to any Pacer fans today.
So embarrassing.

Forget sending Stew to Indiana.

Well, you’ll probably have a couple games without him. Maybe one game suspension for the Flagrant 2, but firing a finger gun at the Pacers bench and flipping the bird to the fans on the way out will probably get him 2nd and maybe a 3rd?
