Mitchell Robinson, Jericho Sims, and Conditional Wizards 1st Returned for Jonas Valanciunas and Saddiq Bey
-Knicks add depth with a veteran big man and a solid bench wing
-Wizards get their pick back, can wait on Robinson to get healthy and have Sims in the meantime.

I think Washington needs to send some 2nds back in that deal. And they have 3 mid 2nds just in 2025 alone.

I mean, that 1st is protected Top 10 this year, Top 8 next year, then 2 2nds. I get that it's more valuable to the Wizards than anyone else but not sure they owe much back to NY here. Maybe a bad future 2nd.

Oh my bad. I had it that the Knicks still had 3 shots at a first. Agree. Washington owes nothing back. Thanks for the correction.

I'd do this for the Wiz. JV is a good mentor for Sarr, but Robinson would be too and hopefully he can show him how to play defense instead of just blocking shots.

I like it...even without picks... (and the Wizards keep Bey and Knicks keep Sims) I think they both should do it,

Knicks obviously should not do this. Downgrade the center (though maybe get a healthy one), get another wing (good, but there are other options on FA including TJ Warren on our Gleague), and we lose our last FRP? No thanks.

Yeah. We'd have to know that Mitch is out for the year or damaged goods, rather than just a glassman. And even then I don't think Val & Bey is the play. Bey is very mediocre and I dunno how much burn his defense would get from Thibs. Val would play when Karl was on the bench, but I dunno how meaningful of an upgrade he'd be for our bench.
If Mitch is broken, I'd rather we go for someone like Timelord than Val, but if Mitch is on track I'd much rather just keep waiting for him to get as fit / healthy as we can get him for the playoffs.

Assuming Mitch was done for the season and pure dead weight, then I would probably look for a productive use for his salary slot for the next few years. Can we get involved in a 3-way where we get Gafford? Obviously we should have our eyes on turner though Pacers would be crazy to trade him, crazier to trade him to us. Big Jake in TOR also could be on that list. Can we convince Spurs to take Mitch with a pick to get back Collins, Bassey? That last one is probably my favorite because Collins low key wants to punch everyone in the face which is something we need.

Do we have the assets to get Gafford or Poeltl for Mitch without losing any of our top 6? I'd dig Gafford, he's basically what I think Sims could grow into if he makes the most of his potential, but don't see how you work a 3-way that sends him to us for Mitch if Mitch is broken...and if Mitch is on track, I'd rather keep him.
The Spurs option doesn't interest me at all, might as well trade Mitch's money for a wing and just roll with Achiuwa/Sims at that point, even if Mitch is confirmed out.
I don't think we're doing better than Timelord for a broken Mitch unless we break up our top 6 or Ainge decides to do Leon a favor to rebuild that relationship and works with us on a Sexton+Kessler trade...which I'm not holding my breath for

EC FRP I feel is the recipe for Gafford. Mavs need to be convinced to sell so that means they need to actually get an upgrade or perceived upgrade. They can afford Ayton, for example, and Portland can wait for Mitch to be healthy next year to sell him/use him.
So basically we sweeten the pot for them by adding Mitch, FRP (was) and maybe Dadiet.
Jake is harder since he is effectively 20M. 5.5M remaining could be Payne, Dadiet, Sims. So then we just have to figure our the gymnastics of a backfill. Dadiet hurts of course, but Warren, Okeke, McCuller, and even Moses Brown all could get a look. Basically 10 day contract guys and then before the playoffs get them 2 year deals i guess?

The Wizards would do this to control their FRP. But anyone who treats it as a FRP is delusional. That pick is going to be a couple of second round picks.

100%. I think the Knicks should consider a couple of seconds now rather than wait until 2027 for 2 seconds in order to have those assets now, if they decide to move on Val. Otherwise WAS is going to be deliberately bad in the name of “development” as long as it takes to keep that pick.
