Mavs follow up trade with Kingz

Kings deal: DeMar DeRozan

Maps deal: Daniel Gafford, Naji Marshall, Spencer Dinwiddie

Precursor for Fox trade for Kings
Mavs get a contractually viable scorer on the wing who's deficiencies are masked with AD behind him.

I think the follow up is Fox. I need to check on the money. But Fox, Kyrie, and AD as a big 3 might explain this.

That’s kinda what I was thinking, but who the heck is the returning package for the Kings?!

I don't think the Mavs have the assets for Fox.

I think Gafford and Marshall are better than DeRozan and fit really well with AD.

Best guess,

Mavs out: Klay Thompson, Derek Lively, P.J Washington, LAL 2029 first, Mavs 2025 first
Mavs in: Fox

Mavs give the Kings there 3 3rd best scorer in Washington and a solid defensive C in Lively. Klay is filler, but maybe the Kings can flip him. The Mavs first might be overkill here, you guys can decide.

The Kings get front court help (I was told by Kings fans this is what they want.) Also they get off of Fox and his nonsense.

-0.5 BPM, bad defense, 57%TS
vs.
-0.7 BPM, very good defense, 58%TS (Naji)
+4.4 BPM, very good defense, 72%TS (Gafford)

To me they are all very close but DeRozan is a hard fit on a lot of teams + bad defensively + old. For a limited subset that need a high-volume bench scorer more than switchable defensive players DeRozan might be better, but I don't think that is Dallas OR Sacramento.

Is DeRozan even a positive asset at this point? It makes sense for them to capitalize on a center, but I'm sure Mavs could do better.

You must not stay up late. DeRozan has been fantastic thr past 1.5 for the Kings. Seems like Doug Christie unlocked his fit with the Kings roster.

DeRozan makes a ton of sense in Dallas with Kyrie and AD.

I've watched DeRozan 100x more than you have, now he's 35 and signed 2 more seasons beyond this one, I wouldn't pay to get hm and probably no other team should.

Mavs out: Klay Thompson, Derek Lively, P.J Washington, LAL 2029 first, Mavs 2025 first

I'd need a 3rd team involved for sure. But this could definitely have some legs. Not sure you can put Lively on the court with Sabonis, and Klay shouldn't be desired here, but we are sick so maybe.

Since today proved anything is possible. What about just expanding the Lakers deal?

Kings out: Fox, Len
Kings in: Washington, Reaves, Vando, 2029 LA first
Kings follow this up by routing Huerter, Lyles, LA 1st for Collins
Reaves - Monk - Keegan - Washington - Sabonis
Carter - Keon - Derozan - Vando - Collins

Mavs out: Washington, Klay, Lively
Mavs in: Fox, Len
Fox - Kyrie - Naji - AD -Gafford
Dinwiddie - Grimes - Christie - Len

Pacers out: Turner, Mathurin
Pacers in: Lively, Knecht, Klay
Pacers get center of the future don't worry about Turners extension, add shooters for Hali. Can route Klay to Det instead of moving Obi.
Hali - Nembard - Walker - Siakam - Lively
McConnell - Shepphard - Knecht - Nesmith - Obi - Bryant

Lakers out: Reaves, Vando, Knecht
Lakers in: Turner, Mathurin
Lakers go for a title ASAP
Luka - Mathurin - Lebron - Rui - Turner
Vincent - Reddish - DFS - Kleber - Hayes

Lakers owe value here. Kings probably want Lively and to not get him they probably need another first. I need a Pacer fan perspective on that move but I have Turner as worth more than Lively (though more expensive he is a deep threat and faster pace player.) I see potential in a Fox to Dallas deal, just depends on how big they want to make it and the teams involved.

Due to contract + age, I had Lively as worth more than Turner. Lively will be on a cheap contract 2 more years, Turner reportedly wants 30-40 million. And if Pacers are able to swing Klay to Detroit, they save a ton of $$ which seems like a focus for them. And add a perfect center to the timeline.

I think Kings prefer forwards over a traditional center next to Sabonis. Washington is a perfect fit, and Reaves gives us a good guard to replace a portion of Fox's production. And if we can actually swing that Lakers 1st for Collins, it makes it even better. I actually really like the resulting roster in Sac. No additional pick needed from my end.

I have Reaves as the best piece here so figured Lakers would need a decent bit to move off him.

Mavs are the questionable one. They didn't want to pay Luka a supermax, so instead they pay max to Fox and AD? I think the new owners here to save some money long term sadly.

I honestly don’t know what the Mavs are thinking. They could have had much better packages for Luka than AD and filler. This is just NUTS. I don’t know the Pacers well enough to know about that either. I believe you about the Kings, and I have Reaves as the 4th best player in the deal. I see Fox as #1 and P.J and Myles as being 2 and 3 (assign the order as you like. Lively is Young and has upside, but injury and lack of distance limit him.

That doesn't seem to be a factor for the Mavs... it's more important who is closest to Nico

Nobody knows what the mavs are doing smh.

And my bad, didn't mean reaves most valuable in the entire deal, it came out wrong. Most valuable in their portion of the trade. Maybe I'm off. If reaves = < Turner, then mathurin can be kept out and maybe something smaller goes to LA.

This reeks of collusion outside the NBA between the new owner of the Mavs and the owner of the Lakers. Money changing hands outside the league or something. There is no way that the Mavs sell this short on Luka. Not opening it up to bidding with a top 5 player is suspicious as hell. Worse, they didn’t even demand all the available picks, to say nothing of Kneckt, Reaves, or any value contracts. This is 10 kinds of funky and Mavs fans should be every bit as furious as we both know they are.
