Jimmy Butler --> Mavs

Post#1 » by GeorgeMarcus » Sun Feb 2, 2025 7:03 am

I saw it in my crystal ball, clear as day, but I'm blind to the path that must be taken. I assume at least 3 of Washington/Gafford/Marshall/Christie are needed for salary. Perhaps another team or 2 to smooth things over. So what will it take for the Mavs to form an incredibly intriguing Kyrie/Butler/AD triumvirate?

I dont think kyrie will stay even to the deadline. If butler goes to mavs, kyrie goes to heat. Then mavs decline to give butler an extension

I had the same thought.

Gafford/Klay/Christie plus the last Mavs FRP and the ‘29 LAL FRP.

Miami was reportedly interested in PJ Washington when he was with Charlotte. Klay Thompson would be right up Riley's alley as a vet who helps you make the playoffs + has championship experience.

Miami gets Washington, Thompson, Gafford, and Exum
Mavs get Butler

Still, not sure the Mavs want to gut their roster to get Butler.

Spoiler:
Lively / Powell
AD / Marshall
Butler / Christie
Grimes / Hardy
Irving / Dinwiddie

Bam / Ware
Washington / Jovic
Thompson / Jaquez
Highsmith / Robinson
Herro / Rozier

Kings as always make sense

Kings out: Fox, Huerter, Len
Kings in: Klay, Jovic, JJJ, Gafford, Washington

Monk - Derozan - Keegan - Washington - Sabonis
Carter - Keon - Klay - JJJ - Jovic - Lyles

Dallas out: Klay, Gafford, Dwight Powell, Washington
Dallas in: Butler, Len, 2 1st round picks from Miami

Kyrie - Christie - Jimmy - AD - Lively
Dinwiddie - Hardy - Grimes - Naji - Len

Miami out: Butler, JJJ, Jovic, 2 1sts
Miami in: Fox, Huerter, Powell

Miami would hang up the phone. It's sending out arguably the best player in the trade and it is gutting its depth and mortgaging its future for the pleasure of doing so.

How does Dallas get 2 1sts for getting Butler while sending out a collection of role players?

How does this make sense for the Kings? They'd have to think Jovic was Jokic and JJJ was not Jaquez but Jaren Jackson Jr

Well it's something that's been discussed in both the Fox/Butler threads. But Butler pretty much has no value at this point.

Dallas is getting compensated for sending out Gafford/Washington, but I agree looking at it, they probably get 1 1st too many. And that 1st should probably stay with Miami.

Kings are going to have to move Fox. The discussion in those threads is how does Miami get Fox, Herro, Ware, Bam. That involves giving up JJJ/Jovic (though I agree it's underwhelming). I'm also a bit of a PJ Washington stan for the Kings.

From Sac's POV we would have a lot of dead weight left on the roster in Demar, Klay, Lyles. But those 3 could be packaged this summer for a real player. Something like Derozan + Klay + a pick for LaVine. Derozan routed to a 3rd team.

Sabonis/Gafford
Washington/Jovic
Keegan/JJJ
Lavine/Keon
Monk?Carter

We are in a bad spot with the Fox situation, but I actually think the above team could compete be in the 4-7 seed range and is better than what we have today.

This trade seems like a good idea right now but I don't think the Mavs will trade Gafford.

On one hand you're arguing Butler has no value, but Sacramento is going to trade Fox to get Butler to Dallas when Sacramento will likely get good value from Fox via San Antonio? Gafford and PJ Washington are worth Butler and 1-2 1sts but Butler is worth nothing? That just doesn't make sense to me.

Sure, Sacramento is in a crap spot with Fox, but there is no need to be rash. DeRozan still has value, too.

I think you're selling both Miami and Sac short in this deal.

I don’t want to see PJ + Gafford + depth traded for Jimmy. But depends what the rest of trade looks like now obviously

There's no reason for the Mavs to pay twice the going rate.

no interest at anything resembling the vxmike price, yikes. No real interest at all with what Dallas has to match with(I think), they do have more apron room now so its a little easier than it was.

But I get why this is proposed.

But note Dallas spent an asset to duck the tax. So jay got his answer on will Vegas spend. No, no they won't. They ducked tax here(fine, its a smart move) but they also were too scared to pay Luka the supermax. So they aren't going to be the team to pay Butler and why take a guy who is unhappy over money?

If the Mavs were interested in consolidating...why not keep LeBron too...

Paul George to Dallas, Butler+Klay to Philly?

Dallas gets assets from Philly, Miami gets PJ. Gafford ends up somewhere for another asset to Dallas/salary to Miami. Maybe he goes to Philly and they add more value?

At this point Dallas is the Wild West of the trade deadline. All along the media/fans following the NBA thought Butler was the first domino. It turned out to be Luka & AD first.

Now I think Butler talks progress rapidly. When they first put Jimmy on the block Riley broadcast the Heat would not take back "bad money" but eventually lowered demands on incoming contracts. Looking back, seems like Miami was angling to clear their books for Luka, using Butler, until talks picked up with the Lakers.

Couldn't it be Lively going out, not (healthy) Gafford?

MIA sends Butler to DAL

DAL sends Klay & Lively to ORL, PJ Washington & Naji Marshall to MIA

ORL sends KCP to MIA, DEN 25 frp & ORL 26 frp (Top 5) to DAL
