Simple trade need help

Kings opened up a very large TPE. Word is we are now nearly 12 million under the luxury tax.
Meanwhile hints that Indiana wants to dump obi for long term savings.

McDermott + picks (3 2nds? Or maybe the spurs 27 1st) for toppin.

Kings duck Lux buck pick up a forward they desperately need.

I’d rather send the fake Charlotte first to Utah for Collins.

He’s a better fit and a truer big.

I like it if there is a follow-move by combining McDermott/Bennedict/Nesmith/assets for a real upgrade.

Demar trade is next.

This is a great move financially for the Pacers but might make them worse on the floor this year. As well as they are playing the last 15 games it's tough to make a such a change.

McConnell - Sheppard - Nesmith - Walker - Toppin - Bryant

I'd also guess there's an appetite to bring Jackson back next year. Seems like they could afford to move one of these bench guys, Toppin or Nesmith?

The problem is everyone isn't healthy.

But the ultimate goal is to move on from Bennedict and one of Nesmith/Obi, or both, for a real upgrade on the Wing.

Hell, San Antonio themselves would offer more to put Jabari Smith Jr next to Wemby

Yes, however you want to view it, a similar mechanism is going to be used in order to generate the room to re-sign Turner, and it is likely moving Benn and one of Nesmith/Obi.

I think that Indy would be happy to get a two way upgrade on the wings for the long haul, but so would every team in the league (except NY with Bridges/Obi?). Who that is, I don't know.

I do think Indy would like to keep Turner. I don't know their willingness to pay tax next year, as clearly Simon hasn't paid the tax since 2005, but also, he's getting very old and any year could be his last. I assume they won't pay it, until they actually do, much as I assumed they wouldn't trade a player for future picks until they actually did with LeVert.

I just think the simplest and "lightest" move in terms of affecting the roster is dealing Obi out for cap savings to keep Myles. Ultimately, we love Obi, but he's realistically the 8th man on the roster? And he's got Jarace Walker growing behind him? I just think that's a cost you can afford to pay to keep a center who just helps everything else work?

Yeah, I mean, this makes sense. Trey Lyles would maybe make more sense for Indy for the rest of the year as an expiring, but McDermott offers something situationally for Indy. Lyles would offer a stopgap for the rest of the year, though, that could provide that safety backup, if Sac was willing to move him.

Ultimately, I can't see Obi pulling cap savings AND a 1st like that. I mean, I'd love to get a 1st for Obi. Some amount of 2nds, sure. That seems more realistic, though?

If we're moving OBI, Lyles would work for me. I don't see the need for Doug unless we're moving a wing.

He is starting and playing > 30 minutes for the 3rd best team in the western conference. He is just now the same age as Keegan Murray was as a rookie.

His value is still high, right? Switchable 1-5, shoots the 3, defends at a high level, plug and play to the highest degree, and still is 21 years young.

If his value was a mediocre Spurs pick in 3 years, my Pacers would offer much more than that.

this is a good idea. Agree with Scoot that Indy would probably like Lyles back, but for the Kings they need to add not just replace. Still now Indy would have some room to backfill a PF or they could just go to Walker.

Oh, absolutely. Get space and some 2nds for Obi, and then Indy can shop around for an expiring PF on the market for same or less money with that new cap and the 2nds, etc. Lots more flexibility. Or really, any sort of SF/PF player would help. Chris Boucher? JaeSean Tate? Torrey Craig? Who knows...

Yes, I know what Smith was projecting, but up to this point and based on what his fan base and his numbers think... so far it has been a failure. mediocre shooter, poor rebounder for his size/position, 0 playmaking and Houston's defense is better when his backup (T.Eason) plays...so I'm not sure if it starts on his own merits or because of his 3 pick status .... Today he is not even worth his salary, in terms of production...so I'm sure he undervalues him, but I don't think his value is enormous.

A starter on a 32-16 team is worth 10 Million easily.
