2030 draft is deeper in the second round than the 2029 draft.

This has to be a leaked part of a bigger multi-team trade to satisfy the touch rule right? Either that or they're just trolling fans at this point? Why else trade a 2nd 4 years from now for one 5 years from now?

Denver's 2029 1st to OKC becomes a 2030 2nd, which Denver conditionally traded to us in the offseason. So I guess something's happening to that pick in another trade and Charlotte is getting a guaranteed 2nd

2029 DEN 1st to OKC, protected for selections 1-5 in 2029 and 1-5 in 2030. If Denver has not conveyed this pick to Oklahoma City by 2030, then Denver will instead convey its 2030 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City.

My guess is it is related to the 2027 and 2029 1sts Denver owes OKC. I have not figured out the meat and potatoes of the rationale other than it makes sense. Someone with more knowledge on this should chime in.

The weekend was too interesting.

These two teams decided to balance things out by giving us the most boring trade they could possibly think of.

It's so boring it kinda circles back to being interesting. Which is fascinating. Almost like a work of art.

Early candidate for my favorite post of 2025.

Thunder had 4 incoming 2029 second rounders plus an incoming 2029 first rounder, on top of owning their own picks. They had 2 incoming 2030 2nd rounders. I’m guessing this was their motivation. Longer term pick control and balancing their excess picks across different years. For Hornets, it is probably banking on the Suns pick being more valuable.
