Kings/Houston /Hawks/Pacers everyone happy..?

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Tue Feb 4, 2025 9:05 am

KINGS
In:J.Smith/Landale
Out:A.Lenn/T.Lyles/FRP(Spurs 27 unp)/FRP(Kings 28 top 8 prot)

Sabonis/Landale
J.Smith/Crowder
K.Murray/DDR
Lavine/Ellis
Monk/Carter

they trade a portion of the package received to Fox to get a proper fit for Sabonis(at least on paper)4/5 with blocking and shooting ability for the 3...also sets them up for the future, with a very good young core(Carter /Ellis/Murray/Smith...)

HOUSTON
In:Nance/Mathews/Spurs 27 FRP/Kings 28 FRP
Out:J.Smith/Landale/SRP

J.Smith's production has been irrelevant for Houston, they are perfectly covered in the forward position, they have a lot of talented young people and they will not be able to retain them all financially... in my opinion it is time to sell him, his next FA and probably being surpassed by Eason and even Whitmore would lower his value. On the court, he gets a solid veteran to cover the departure of Smith and remain just as competitive (Nance) and a specialist shooter (a profile they lack)
(They save a few million in both the short and long term...which gives them extra flexibility)

HAWKS
In: Toppin
Out:Nance/Mathews/SRP

Hawks do not own their team and must try to compete... They get Toppin to replace the injured Johnson. (A similar archetype, super athletic who can space) should fit very easily and well and probably increase his value playing as a starter

PACERS
In:Lenn/Lyles/SRP(Hawks)/SRP(Houston)
Out:Toppin

why?..economic reasons, reports say that Indiana would prefer to move Toppin now to make room and extend Turner in the summer.. This trade achieves that purpose, it opens up minutes for Walker and he obtains 2 veterans who can play in specific situations

Id just cut out Hawks. We can take toppin using our tpe and have extra 2nds.

Sure...I thought they would prefer financial flexibility...also include Hawks, I thought towards the offer being a little more tempting, since Houston would receive a solid player to continue competing

Houston is competing right now, they won't trade Jabari for 2 picks that are not that great. Ready the logic here I even thought it was Jalen Smith instead of Jabari lol

In general for Indy, Obi for a somewhat useful stopgap expiring like Lyles and somewhat decent to good 2nds is probably fine, and realistic. If another player is coming, Indy is at 15, so they'd probably have to send James Wiseman somewhere else in the deal to keep flexibility. But, whatever.

The Kings pick could have some potential if it was unprotected.
Would that change your mind? I get get not wanting to move him though.

Unprotected picks are awesome, but Houston already has 4 juicy future picks

2027 PHO #1 Unprotected
2027 HOU #1 with the right to swap with Brooklyn, Unprotected
2029 PHO #1 Unprotected
2029 DAL #1 Unprotected

Unless they somehow need another to complete an imminent deal or we have a looming tax issue, there is no reason to snatch up another.

Jabari is a valued part of our current squad, and a critical piece to our elite defense. He is just not currently available.

Check out the Rockets' defensive rating before and after Jabari went down injured and then tell me again if you think his production has been irrelevant. The only people that keep putting Jabari in trade packages are non-Rockets fans. You won't catch any Rockets fans doing that because we see his value and appreciate it.

I think Toppin would have a bit higher value. His salary fits into a lot of team's exceptions, and he's a type that a lot of teasm can use. For example, you could ship him to DET for a couple of SRPs without any salary coming back, and I'd love to see Cade with an athletic 3PT shooting 4

Heck, if I had a nudge-nudge, wink-wink (*) from the Pacers, I'd let him stay in Indy for the playoff run, hold DET's cap space until the draft, and take Toppin into space for 2 SRPs the night of the draft.

* yeah I know that's against the rules, Joe Smith and all that
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

This is the dream, really.

Also, I don’t think it’d be illegal to make clear to another team that “we value this guy a lot, and would hold the same value this summer if he came available”.

And we need more forward depth anyway so I second this.

That’s his response to any trade proposal with Houston.

I’m happy to sit and watch them face the reality that all those young guys are going to be financially impossible to keep within a couple years.

SAS and OKC are in the same boat.

Everyone needs to be patient. Things will cycle as always.

Would you trade Keegan Murray for 27 Spurs #1 and say Pacers 28 #1 top 8 protected?

You can't pay them all. There are definitely several teams that need to be on the look out for consolidation trade including my Pacers. Unfortunately there are always in each fan bases those who see the world with blinders on.

If it opened up more playing time for arguably better players then yes.

I will not argue with you about what Houston wants, or the value of its players... I have no doubt that you know much better than I do... but in my defense I will say, that before making the trade, I was diving into Rockets forums ( reddit especially) to get an idea about their opinion of Jabari and in general they seemed disappointed..

All over this for the Kings exactly the type of player we need.
