Paul George

Post#1 » by Foshan » Tue Feb 4, 2025 3:11 pm

So the wiretap says GSW & ATL have called about PG.

Obviously, PG is having an underwhelming year so far, (although Maxey/PG/Embiid have shown potential together, in a VERY small sample size) and at the same time the Sixer's FO could face pretty harsh criticism/embarrassment by trading their big summer signing so quickly.
- GS seems to be calling everyone about everyone.
- ATL to be honesty, I don't know what they are doing, as they don't own their pick and are a 'smaller' market team, i feel the FO would want to fight there way into the playoffs while remaining under the tax.

So what's the deal that makes both sides happy?

Is there another surprise team out there making a call?

Happy to eat crow, but I feel like it is fully just negotiating.
Butler costs that much???? We will get back to you, because we are also talking to the Sixers on PG who is younger and less of a flight risk (lol).

I wouldn't read too much into GS calling, we're calling about any big name who is or might be available.

I don't disagree. But you called... so what was the offer? (your opinion)

If we made an offer, probably Wiggins plus some combo of Schroder/GP2/Looney/Hield/SloMo.

Something like this:

To GSW: PG, min contracts from Philly
To Philly: Wiggins, Schroder, SloMo
To cap space team: GP2, 2nds from GSW

Then PG is going to stay a Sixer. I'm not even sure I'd offer this much if I were GSW. Wiggins is playing arguably better than PG this year, is younger, more reliable, and 1/2 the price.

You gotta be desperate as hell to trade for PG at this point.

You know who's desperate Miami.

You know who Embiid wants Jimmy. Calling it Jimmy for PG will happen.

PG’s contract is arguably the worst in the NBA

Take that deal & run

Is PG currently better than Wiggins?

I can see how ATL might offer Hunter, Bogdanovic, and Nance, but they will probably ask PHI to add

Is PG really an upgrade from Wiggins?

For a playoff series and not considering salary? George is better. Going forward considering age, salary, injury history? I'd prefer Wiggins. And I'd definitely prefer Wiggins if the cost was Schroeder and SloMo, who are both at least decent depth pieces.

If it were Green in place of Wiggins, I could get behind a PG move. Who is returning value for Green though? Maybe Miami? (I use the term value in the most loose possible way.)

I think Memphis should give it a shot. He'd be awesome next to JJJ on defense and his passing/screening game might get Ja an MVP.

He can also be traded 1:1 for Smart who is expiring and might not be playable until April

Atlanta is the 7th biggest market in the nba. Don’t really understand the Pg fit though.

Beal’s has the ntc (which is a serious issue) but at least it’s shorter and he’s somewhat reliable

Wouldn’t want either for my team
