I don't think this commits Philly to a sell-off, this was just good value for them.

Back in the tax. Philly digs out a little bit.

Damn, I really like this for Dallas. Martin was a guy I had my eye on for the Kings. Locked in cheap, 3&D.

Thinking here, maybe I'm way off base. Could this signal a PJ trade? Dallas back in the tax, and now in the front court they have AD, Lively, Gafford, Naji, Martin, PJ, and Klay.

This is the definition of a sell-off move.

Whether it commits them to a full sell-off depends on the buyers willing to pay the price Philly wants in order to sell.

Does Caleb Martin sit on Dallas' bench since Dallas/Philadelphia play tonight?

Seems a bit bizarre for Dallas, but Caleb Martin is on a reasonable contract for the next three seasons.

I really like this trade for Philadelphia. Cut a little bit of salary (now under the First Apron) and get a younger player.

I just don't think Grimes is significantly worse than Martin for winning this season, so I don't feel like it indicates that the Sixers are going to prioritize future assets.

I guess the swap is fine and you pay the 2nd because of the future cost control? But handy for these guys since they play tonight.

Not sure I love it for Dallas . Felt like Grimes was taking steps forward and had some more room to grow. But consistent with Dallas going all in on a short term window

Probably nitpicking but felt like Philly should sent the second? Might be in minority there.

Dallas fans are going to both love and hate Martin. He'll show out, giving you some big scoring nights and other nights he'll disappear offensively. He's an athletic freak and he's going to give you a ton of energy.

I guess the theory here for Dallas is that Martin and Grimes are comparable players and Martin is cost controlled while Grimes needs a new deal?

He's tough and dirty, Mavs are too nice, except Naji and PJ, and needed that, he's a worse shooter than Grimes, but I think he's equal or better at all other aspects.

Agree that in a vacuum Grimes and Martin are pretty similar values, but who plays the 4 for the Sixers now? Yabu, who they need at Center when Embiid is out? KJ Martin? Seems like they lost some front court depth.

What's the theory for the 76ers though? 1 year of cost savings and a 2nd? Unless they get off of more money by the offseason, where do they get a 4 next season if they can't use the MLE? KJ Martin + picks I guess.

Make sense. Think Mavs might have got wind of grimes being more than MLE money.

More long-term upside plus trying to clear the tax this year?
