Washington to Canada - Mavs / Raptors

Post#1 » by MasterIchiro » Tue Feb 4, 2025 6:36 pm

Dallas
Ochai Agbaji
Chris Boucher

Why for Dallas, maintain depth for bigs, increase wing depth with prospect, save money next year when Boucher's contract expires. Dallas can still find a taker for Gafford to dip below the tax. Agbaji is a strong defender who with AD & Christie, and now Caleb Msrtin, strengthens their commitment to defense.

Raptors
PJ Washington

Raptors add a starting PF alongside Poeltl as they pivot out of their rebuild and gun for the Bulls playin spot.

This move doesn't exclude Raptors from making a move for Ingram, but can serve as a contingency as well in their plan to pivot.

Really don't see anything here interesting for Dallas on the court and the value is poor too. PJ will still be a 30+ minute player even if he doesn't end up starting.

Yeah this is pretty bad for Dallas. I thought for sure it was going to be RJ Barrett, so this is better than that, not there's nothing here that gets Washington out of Dallas.

I'm expecting PJ to start at the 3. If that doesn't work, well Gafford can only play about 25-28 minutes which means AD is going to be playing mostly center like it or not until Lively is back leaving plenty of minutes for PJ at the 4.

I know Raps fans love the found money that is Agbaji and they should. But hard for Dallas to put as much value into him with all the similar level options they now have on the wing and Christie is their young, hope he turns into more guy.

Boucher a fine minutes eater on nights AD is out, but adds nothing else. Wouldn't see the court in the playoffs.

PJ has been pretty close to perfect for the Mavs since being traded there. His contract only gets more attractive as the cap goes up. I only see him getting moved if they conclude they need a 3rd scorer after the season.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Dallas trading a good role player for two completely unproven role players in the post-season and downgrading defensively without a clear offensive upgrade simply kills this deal on inception.

I also don't understand why Dallas needs to "find a buyer" for Gafford to dip below the tax. Gafford is worth a 1st + expiring or a clear playoff rotation caliber player at a different position.

I don't think Dallas is finished making moves but I doubt this is something on their radar.
