Trade #1: Portland and Houston
Blazers get: Jeff Green and a 1st round pick (2027 PHX or 2028 HOU?).

Rockets get: Robert WIlliams III

Why?: Portland picks up an asset for Williams, by picking up a first round pick to add to their rebuild and Houston picks up a big man to help them compete for a title.

Trade #2: Portland and Dallas
Blazers get: PJ Washington, Naji Marshall, and Dante Exum

Mavs get: Anfernee Simons and Toumani Camara

Why?: Portland moves Simons to clear room for continuing to develop its young guards while improving its defense, and Dallas balances out their roster by swapping two frontcourt players for a scoring guard and another win defender. Portland waives Exum.

Trade #3: Portland, LA Lakers, and Sacramento
Blazers get: Dalton Knecht, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, and Christian Wood

Lakers get: Deandre Ayton, Jabari Walker, Ryan Rupert, Doug McDermott, and Alex Len

Kings get: Kris Murray and Duop Reath

Why?: Blazers move Ayton for depth and clear a starting spot for Clingan. Lakers get their center. Kings move some veterans and add a couple of young players to the rotation.

Final Blazers Roster:
PG- Henderson, Banton, Vincent
SG- Sharpe, Knecht, Thybulle
SF- Avdija, Grant, Marshall, Green
PF- Washington, Vanderbilt, Hachimura
C- Clingan, Wood

Nobody is giving anything close to a real 1st, let alone an unprotected 1st for Robert "25 games per year" Williams.

Houston already has Sengun and Adams this year anyways.

No go for trade #2, Blazers are not giving up Camara for that, Camara is a keeper and he and Deni play very well together on both sides of the ball

1st trade: Houston has Adams. Not sure they need RWIII and no one is sending an unprotected 1st for RWIII. A "worst of" several 1sts or a couple of 2nds is fairer.

2nd trade: No. Camara is too cheap/young/good for a package of players that don't really help the Blazers. Ant to the Mavs, PJ to a 3rd team, and a pick+expiring to the Blazers is great framework though.

3rd trade: Yes if Vando gets removed from the deal. I don't think he's actually necessary to balance salaries, and his contract is so bad that Blazers need something better than Knecht coming back.

All I know is that if the Blazers still have all that salary on the books after the deadline, for the second year in a row during the middle of a rebuild, that's a huge L.

There's an opportunity cost that comes with not being able to sell cap space when you're rebuilding. There's an opportunity cost when it comes to development when you have too many vets playing too many minutes. You pay that cost when the team is playing good basketball and winning. You don't when you're losing anyway.

It's past time for the Blazers to get off some of that money.

I think the Blazers have joined the Bulls on the treadmill. I predict they trade no vets other than maybe RWIII who they featured tonight. Hope I'm wrong!

I like the young guys! Scoot looks like he'll be the Kyle Lowry of Mike Conleys. Sharpe can become a top-10 SG for a long time. Camara and Deni are already really good wings. Clingan could be a great defensive center.

The one thing this roster is missing, though, is a guy with the potential to be a consistent all-nba teamer. I'm no draft expert, but everyone seems to think there are 3-4 star-potential guys in this draft. Very strange that we're leaning on Ayton, Grant, and Simons to play heavy minutes to try to make the play-in this year when we could pretty easily clear them off of our books and get a few assets back while leaning into developing our young guys and getting better odds at a star.
