Theis/draft compensation to OKC

Doesn't mean there won't be an Ingram trade, but New Orleans making sure tax is ducked in case that doesn't go down.

And would I rather have Grimes, Theis, and some bad 2nd than Martin? Yes

Nice, I wanted us to make this move for some depth if we weren’t doing much else. Good use of tax room.

Probably means Chet .20 not getting a roster spot.

I got excited for a minute because I remembered Theis from the Celtics, but I've been informed by many people that he is washed now.

So ... another second is fine, I guess?

I really need Sam to do something bigger because if we get bounced in the second round because of issues that are so obvious that I can see them and then we draft two new rookies in the offseason I'm going to become the Joker.

There were reports they had a tax trade lined up with us though.

Looks unlikely that’s happening now.

“Some depth” it is

Yup, I liked him a lot too but haven't followed up on him recently. But even if it's a crappy 2nd rounder, an expiring 2 million contract (probably alongside cash to pay for what's left of his deal) is peanuts in NBA terms.

Probably the Pistons are a bit expensive, or maybe they're saving themselves for a bigger deal?

Spotrac still has NOP $24K above the tax line post-trade. I have to assume that there's just some little detail that's off, otherwise what's the point. Would be a bit funny to have a team miscalculate that way though — unintentional comedy is the best comedy.

Stein has it as a 2031 2nd for those of us who care about details.

Feels like NOP should not have had to use a second to dump a vet min no matter how bad Theis has grown or how bad a second it is.

Murray has $700k incentive if he play 65 games, this is listed as likely on spotrac and adds to the Pels money. But we know he won't play 65, so Pels will be under by 670k.

Figured it had to be something simple.

Gives Pels' wiggle room to take back some salary in an Ingram trade with an apron team and allows them to negotiate up to the deadline. I think this means there is also a good chance they hold Ingram until the summer now.

Man, huge increase in cost from recent years for dumping a vet minimum at the deadline. In years past, it was just cash.

Though, maybe NO was more willing to pay a “worst of 2nd” than to pay the cash necessary?

Yeah more than cash for a min is kind of rough.

Sorry if this against board rules but I find the Stewart video too funny.

It's getting your share of the tax the taxpayers pay AND getting below the line. Easily worth a 2nd if you are Pels.
