LaMelo Ball offers

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Thu Feb 6, 2025 5:55 am

Charlotte's front office appears to just be bailing on trying to build a team any time soon, since we're trading away highly productive 23yo big men with swaths of upside, for picks 6-7 years away, and a shooter we simply could have drafted in the offseason.

No real emphasis on trying to build on our 23 year old star PG's timeline....

So what's the best offer out there?

Prefer picks really far in the future so that Jeff Peterson won't be around to draft more Salaun's

He scares the hell outta me because he seems deeply unserious but I imagine the rockets at least poke around? Have a bunch of far out picks I suppose. Jalen+Bari+Jock + how many picks? Both 2029 picks (best of DAL/PHX/HOU) I imagine are in there at the very least

Houston would definitely bid, but would have to research first.

I get the same exact vibes and flat out wouldn't touch him.

Somebody once described his shot selection as being disrespectful to the Hornets franchise and I have to agree. He has talent, of course, but he's not someone I would hand the keys on the offense to expecting to contend, or trust with a max contract.

LaMelo doesn’t seem like a Udoka guy at all.

LaMelo to me screams good stats, bad team guy. I’d be looking elsewhere with trade assets.

Trust me I know, he is legit one of my least favorite players to watch bc of that but the talent is undeniable. Would be a true test for Ime lol

He’s shooting 24 times a game (13 from 3) on .41/.33/.82 splits. He’s shooting as much as Iverson in 2000/01 and Bryant in 2005/06. A 37% usage rate, 24 shots per game and shoots 5.5 FTs a game?

I don’t know, not sure any serious team would be interested.

Orlando wouldn’t gamble on LaMelos personality, it’s good to wish though.

If they did, I’m sure they could come up with a package that Charlotte coveted headlining with Black and significant pick package.

It's like you're completely clueless about your own coach. An Ime team would never trade for a knucklehead like Lamelo, unfortunately..

If Stone is trying to get Ime to resign, that's one great way to do it.

And yet he got the front office to reverse course on signing Harden

He told Harden personally to go to a place where he had a better shot at a title.

His shot selection is what would make me pause.

his shot selection is a product of the Hornets franchise refusing to build anything over the last couple years

If you want a reference of what he looks like on an actual team go observe his 2021-22 season where he was one of 3 20ppg scorers, an all-star and the leader of a 43-win team.

I don't disagree at this point that there are some habits that need to be un-learned, but he's played winning ball before and I don't think ignoring it is the right way to go

Last summer, I wanted Brooklyn to pursue him. He had some injury, shot selection and defensive effort flags, but a tall PG could do wonders for our rebuild. But this season, he seems to have doubled down on chucking, while muting his playmaking skills, the main thing that made the rest of his game intriguing as a long term building block.

All that to say, I would offer expirings, Cam Thomas, Day'Ron Sharpe and 2 lesser 1sts. I'm not thrilled offering that much, but I acknowledge that even if he's a distressed asset, Ball still holds significant value.

As for the rationale that he doesn't pass because he doesn't have good enough teammates, I don’t buy it.

Brandon Miller is IMO the most talented scorer Ball has ever had as a teammate, his presence and continued development should lead to higher assist #'s. Instead, Lamelo's assists have dropped from last season to this one, and he went more ISO than ever, higher usage, lower efficiency. Not the best sign for a young PG.
