DET — UTA: 2 Players 2 Picks

Post#1 » by SkyHook » Thu Feb 6, 2025 2:37 pm

Hardaway + 2025 SRP (via WAS) + 2026 SRP (via GSW) for Schroder.

Pistons get a productive lead guard to cover for Ivey's injury absence this season and who doesn't eat into next year's cap space. Jazz take on no future salary and pick up draft assets.

I don't think Detroit does this. Hardaway is a pros pro for us and good lockerroom vet, and Schroeder is comparing free agency to slavery. I feel Detroit could have taken Schroeder in the trade yesterday if they wanted him.

I think Utah jumps on this
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

There’s no way Detroit does that trade, largely for what Kilo said. If we wanted Dennis, he’d already be unofficially a Piston. That said it would more likely be;
Get Phi/Det as part of this deal.

Detroit sends Kj Martin, Wendell Moore Jr and a second to Utah for Dennis.

Utah got a second for exchanging PJ Tucker for Dennis, so it’s not like Dennis’ value is that significant.

So for Utah- trim a little payroll, don’t add any money to next season’s payroll, add another 2nd round pick.

For Detroit- trim some extra pieces while getting a temporary secondary ball handler. Seeing if he can actually fit (movie spoiler, his transaction history doesn’t exactly support that). Basically it’s a low investment upgrade to the bench

——
In all honesty, as long as Clarkson is relatively healthy, both him and Sexton make a ton more sense as targets for Detroit currently playing for the Jazz

You're right, Schroder to Detroit would have made far more sense as part of last night's deal. Best for Utah to look elsewhere.

I don't know that the Jazz are motivated to move Sexton; they'd likely rather keep him if he's not returning at least a lotto protected FRP. What about Martin + those two SRPs for Clarkson?

I feel like that’s something along the lines of what goes down today. Kind of hoping we can dump Moore off as part of it. Can’t see us being done regardless

If the Pistons wanted DS, the teams would cut out Utah. Detroit would have given Reed to Miami for the second that Jazz got and DS (into cap space). I don’t think that Detroit wants DS. I’d also rather have THJ over DS especially if we have to add two second to make it happen.

Pistons front office saw the initial trade report and thought “why didn’t we trade for Dennis? Let’s try to change this trade”
