Ben Simmons being bought out. Any suitors?

I'm not sure how useful he can be, but I guess some contenders might want to take a chance on him? Pheonix, Warriors, Dallas?

Would seem like a great fit for Dallas and fill a decent need off the bench... And didn’t seem impossible to throw Powell in some trade at the deadline.
But Dallas is good with our guys
Think it’s most likely LAC. I like Cleveland if they can. Want to see them load up as much as possible..
And on the court fit? I really like him in Miami. But they haven’t been rumored at all.

If I had to bet...I guess I'd go West. Grizzlies/Kings may have the Clippers in order...although I think he wouldn't want to be exposed in a large market

We need some more unforgettable Ben Simmons playoff moments, so I hope he goes somewhere good, gets some minutes, and does something ridiculously silly.

Can Phoenix sign him? I thought the second apron interfered with buyouts. I'd love that for the Sun, I like the Dallas fit.

Part of me feels that the Clips opened a roster spot with Simmo s bring anticipated to be bought out, as they haven't converted Jordan yet. Which would've been my second guess.
Not sure if I want it to happen, but for the min? Why not

Yeah you're right, if you're over the first apron you can't sign anyone whose pre-buyout salary was greater than the MLE. So that rules out the Suns for Simmons

Teams over the 1st apron can't sign a cut player who made more than the NTMLE. That eliminates:
PHX
MIN
BOS
NYK
LAL
MIL
DEN
DAL & GSW are both hardcapped at the 1st apron and are pretty close to it.

Also, Cleveland is only $700K below the tax and they are unwilling to go beyond it for any reason. Clippers have a decent amount under the cap and some additional in unspent MLE. If the Clippers want him, it looks like they have the most to offer.

Spotrac has the Cavs $1.6m below. There are some unlikely incentives out there (Hunter winning DPOY!) but the Cavs didn’t seem to be worried.

Not trying to be argumentative but Sportrac has them at $177.4M in cap allocations with a first apron of $178.1M - around $700K. Am I reading this wrong (it won't be the first time)? Not sure it matters since the Clips have $5M in space and $1.9M in tax space.

Go to the Cavs page and it clearly has the Cavs with their space right at the top. The $177.4m number isn’t correct, it’s down near $170m.

Thats tax space, not apron space - I think. Either way, still hoping for an addition in the buyout market for the Clippers. Both teams will likely get someone good, but I have believed for years that Simmons will flourish in Los Angeles. Better late than never.

Think obvious answer is LAC. Would be surprised if they couldn’t land him.

Really tho, Clippers have had luck with buy outs in recent years playing well (Batum, Big Government, Westbrook), hoping it continues

I only wanted the Cavs to add him after a serious discussion about his expected role, and frankly, even if he said all the right things, it would've been difficult to trust.

Yep. He was an interesting on-court fit but you never know how going from a $40m contract to an end-of-bench minimum guy is going to go.
