What the Hawks should do this offseason

They have 9 players with guaranteed contracts..
T Young
J Johnson
T Mann
O Okongwu
Z Risacher
G Niang
D Daniels
K Bufkin
V Krejci
Which totals around 143 million..
They do not control their selection neither this nor next year..
However, they have the Lakers and the Kings this year
So in your opinion what should they do this offseason...?

Most of us wanted them to be aggressive this year because of their pick debt. And their fans said the team didn’t care and was building a young core around Trae.
Their fans seem to be right. Unless Trae decides he wants to be traded, which I doubt, I think they keep the same group together and hope for continued development out of the other four starters.

Draft BPA and hope for internal growth from their young guys.

I think they should see if the Kings will trade the picks package (+hopefully a little more) they got for Fox for Young and just pull the plug.
Something like: DeRozan, Murray, Valanciunas, picks
for
Young
The Kings could be pretty fun, they'll score a ton and defend no one with a core-3 of Young/LaVine/Sabonis.

Depending on where the salary cap lands for next season, the Hawks could have some decent cap space. They have options of signing a couple of FAs with their full mle and remaining cap space from expirings.
It's a very pivotal offs as this will be the last year to utilize this space with the core essentially all locked up sans Dyson.

I think there were reports that they went after Ingram...I mean at least they intended to go after established players... DDR could be a good objective...it expires, when the selection debt with the SPURS ends, I don't think it would be very expensive and it fills a hole in the Wing as a manager and scorer.. T.Mann/Niang+ for DDR... Kings send Niang to 3 team

I'd stick with Young, JJJ, Daniels, Okongwu, Risacher
Mann off the bench, Mathews and Niang always look like all stars against the Bulls, get them to show up the rest of the games
and go from there, scoring SF's are plentiful, expiring guys off the bench,
at least ask how high into the lottery you could go trading the two picks you've got, and see if you get THE guy you like
If you build slowly while Young and JJJ want to stay there's a path but getting desperate will shoot you down like the past two reconstructions

I think this really depends on where the Kings land. Right now I wouldn't bet on that pick conveying this season, but let's say it lands #13 and the Lakers pick is around #16-18. That will give them a good position to add even more young talent to the team.
As far as FA goes, its looking pretty rough to have cap space this year. Not much out there TBH. But with the way the new CBA is making everyone go crazy there will be teams trying to get off money so someone will shake loose this off season that no one thought about.

I'm a big fan of a few of their players and I think they synergize well.
Trae Young
Dyson Daniels
Jalen Johnson
Zaccharie Risacher
Onyeka Okongwu
Vit Krejci
They need to add a couple things here.
1) Real Size
Could they make a play for Myles Turner? I think Indiana plans on retaining him but Atlanta may be able to outbid us or go higher than we would.
2) Another Wing
They lost Bogdanovic and Hunter. They need to back-fill with someone.

They have the FWs and C position at a good level, a bit undersized for sure, but talented. I think finding ways to bring in more guards, especially defensively minded ones, would be great. Daniels made this team look excellent so honestly, a trade suitor for Young and splitting his contract into two players of half his value might deepen this team and give them more positional flexibility.
I'd have to think a bit about how that would be executed but Young has had a lot of time with the Hawks and to average success. It might be time yet to consider it. Some teams would surely want to have the spacing and threat Young has... Although the end of this season could be instrumental in seeing if that's the path Hawks wanna pursue.

Those guys are the core and all locked in contracts to varying degrees. Pg and Pf are the only rock solid positions, wings could definitely use some scoring punch along with an imposing center.
The picks were thought to be in the 15-20 range but I'd say Lakers finish 23ish and it's 50/50 whether the Sac pick conveys. Super pivotal summer as the Hawks have a last chance to sign a rotation piece outright and the full mle to address other needs.
Somewhat similar to the 2024 OKC offseason with their cap space before their young core salary started to balloon.

Jalen Johnson's injury effectively ruined the season, which makes the Hunter understandable. It's just unfortunate because they had already lost Bufkin and Bogdanovic was injured a lot as well. This team still needs more depth/size in the frontcourt and a true backup PG (if Bufkin can't find his health). They aren't that far away from being competitive, but they need to get a little more creative. If I could have traded Capela's expiring for Ayton or Robert Williams, I would have done so, but the ownership doesn't want to pay the tax for any reason. Resslers just like owning an NBA team, but not really doing anything with it.

Due to their circumstances of not being in control of their draft picks, the Hawks may have to run it back with Trae and company. Unless Trae wants out. Then it becomes a mission to find the best deal that benefits both Trae and the Hawks in the long run.

If they can upgrade Capela, Risacher progresses, and they figure out how to keep JJ healthy, they could push for the top 6 next season.

They got a 25m TPE from Murray to use. And non tax MLE.
Defense and spacing around Trae is likely their goal.
But they could also trade Trae

Trae for Booker?
We need a PG and they can play Dyson next to Booker to covee for his defense

Blow it up. Trade Trae (why wait until he leaves anyway) and Jalen Johnson (injury risk). Ride it out with your young guys until the summer of 27, I hear there are some good free agents available. I'd be delighted with that.

I think both teams would always prefer their own guy..
But that’s one of the better superstar/superstar deals out there imo.
Weird to say I know, but I think Trae is the better player. But Booker is the one you can build a winner around easier?

I don't think Trae Young will ever lead a team to a championship. I'd trade him to Phoenix for Durant and then address the center position so they can move Okungwu to PF.
Daniels, Johnson, Durant, Okungwu, C

I think ATL is set to use the draft picks and let young guys develop. Should be around 6th seed for a couple of years. Better if Risacher or picks explode. Good enough to sell tickets and not pay tax.
