Jonathan Kuminga questions

22 years old...headed towards restricted free agency..
The Warriors have made a strong move to win now and in my opinion the fit is questionable... On the court, this year he has not taken the step forward that was expected...
With very similar or even slightly lower numbers in FG/FT...below average 3-point shooter (34.5%)....
He is putting up 16.8ppg/5.0re/2.2as....
So what do the Warriors want? Will they pay him? Or will they try to move him...
What is his value?
What teams could pursue him and what would you offer for him?

Only team with cap is Brooklyn. I think they should make a short term but high offer, something like 105m/3 (35 per year). If it is a bad deal, not a huge deal, team is bad anyway. But there is a reasonable chance that he is a 20/7 type of player and the contract is fine. Probably takes a but of an overpay to get him, my bet is GSW prefers something like 82.5-90m/3.

I think the Warriors will plan to keep him, but agree that the short-term fit with Jimmy and Dray is questionable at best.

I don't think a S&T is off the table either if it could net us some win-now pieces that fit better around the Steph/Jimmy/Dray trio.

Anyone who pays him big money will regret it.

Fools gold.

I really like him in the Bulls,...(I also like Vuc's fit in the Warriors)..could there be a deal? How would that trade be structured? Vuc+Blazers FRP for Kuminga ?

As a Nets fan, I know we're in the mix for Kuminga. I've never loved his game. I would rather we pursue LaRavia with a modest deal since he's UFA, rather than chase Jonathan with a big offer and hope that GSW doesn't match.

How does outgoing sign/trade work with the new apron, triggers?

I have no idea. But I assume there’s a rule for that now..

IIRC an incoming S&T hard caps you at the first apron and an outgoing S&T hard caps you at the second apron.

I think Butler can take over Green role from an SF spot instead of PF, which enables Kuminga to play PF.

I think this is theoretical though because you only choose this path when Green loses his defensive impact, which he still hasn't much. Though on offense he's awful.

i think BYC is still a thing so salary matching may get tricky unless its with someone like brooklyn with cap

Only if you return a player contract in return for that outgoing sign and trade. If it's just draft picks or a TPE returned/created, then you're largely unaffected.

This is absolutely still a thing and a huge difficulty.

Ideal scenario is Butler mentoring JK and they keep him. Butler is a best case scenario of what JK can become. We’ll see how the rest of his season goes post all star break. Everything is on the table right now

Pretty sure the Vucevic interest has passed

I don't see why it would have, unless we're convinced that Post is Vucevic-lite. We were supposedly exploring a Vuc deal even after agreeing in principle to the Butler trade (and it's not like the Butler deal solved our spacing issues - if anything, it made them more acute).

As far as a S&T Kuminga for Vuc+, depending on how the rest of the year plays out and JK's contract demands, I could see it making sense.

IMO the + in a Kunminga for Vuc+ deal would have to be more significant than a fake 1st. Vuc gives up so much on defense that he's not that valuable. Though I guess the Bulls do have a large TPE that could make dealing with BYC issues in a S&T much easier.

Not sure what Kuminga is worth on the open market, but a S&T with the Nets for Cam Johnson makes good sense for both teams.
Smart thing for Warriors is to let the other teams set the market.
Perhaps the S&T could bring back multiple players to provide depth for Warriors - Keldon Johnson. Jeremy Sochan ($26M) for Kuminga

I'd do Kuminga for Cam but since Brooklyn has cap space, I'm sure they'd rather just make JK an oversized offer and dare GS to match if they like him that much.

For my team - the pistons - wouldn't give up anything. Not because he's not a decent player, but we don't need to commit money to a 3/4 player that doesn't space the floor. GS is likely thinking the same thing. Of course, all it takes is 1 GM to fall in love with his potential and convince themselves he's going to blossom in a bigger role.

The cap stuff is above my paygrade, but could something around Naz Reid sign&trade with Kuminga be feasible?

I like JK, and think he'll benefit far more playing next to Jimmy's interior passing than with Wiggins, but some kind of sign&trade seems like the best option

Just addressing the cap question: both teams would have to end the deal under the first apron, which is going to be tough for Minnesota unless Randle opts out.
