If Minnesota wanted to trade McDaniels and get back a 2025 FRP or rookie scale deals.

Which teams with capspace in the offseason would be interested in McDaniels?

The only team with capspace this offseason, as of right now, is Brooklyn.

Yikes that's not much.
Pistons and Bulls maybe if they give something.
Hawks have a TPE right?

They do. Roughly $25.7m until 7/7.

I'm sure things will change around the draft and whatnot, though...

Brooklyn does not want McDaniels.

We will either chase bigger impact young max players on cap strapped teams, or we will use our capspace on short FA signings and absorbing salary for pay.

Minnesota: 15M player + 1st from Team Y
Team Y: McDaniels
Team X: 10M Team X player into MLE + 2nds from Team Y

Does that structure work?

So for example:

Charlotte - McDaniels
Minnesota - Josh Green, 2027 Dallas 1st (top 2 protected, from Charlotte)
Team X - Okogie + 2nd rounder (Charlotte)

Charlotte gets to throw out a young starting 5 of Lamelo-20251st-Miller-McDaniels-MarkWilliams. Don't lose any of their own picks.

Minnesota saves 12M to pay NAW and Naz Reid, Green is an okay 3+D guy and gets a now intriguing 1st

And whoever has MLE space picks up Okogie, 8M for one year isn't bad, he's a passable player.

or:

Charlotte - McDaniels
Minnesota - Josh Green, Coby White
Team X - Okogie + 2nd rounder (Charlotte)
Bulls - Conley, 2027 Dallas 1st (top 2 protected, from Charlotte)

and the Wolves get a CobyWhite-Edwards-NAW-Randle-Gobert starting 5 with a Dillingham-DDV-Green-Reid bench. Charlotteand Team X, same deal as the above trade. Bulls move White for a fun first instead of paying him after next year.

Kings had better beat that offer. McDaniels is a great fit with Sabonis/Murray.

Don’t believe MN wants to move off of Jaden. He’s been playing very well and he’s a key part of the future core.

Well he grades out the poorest on impact stats out of Conley, DDV, NAW, Ant, Naz, Randle, Gobert.

Seems like they could save money as McD has value around the league and would give FRP or so

He is still a top defender, since the new year all his averages are way up, and he has one of the highest net ratings on the team. I suspect where his true value will shine through is the playoffs. Last year Jaden hit another gear. If he does that again this year all talk of moving him will be done.

The Kings SHOULD absolutely beat that offer. Just don't see McDaniels becoming available for this. Although Luka was traded for Christie/1st and the carcass of an all NBA player.

And this is where the new NBA is moving to. Your superstars on the offensive end are great, but not everyone can have them. But there are superstars on the defensive end too. Like players that can actually swing a series in the POs. McDaniels is THAT good.

You looking at full season stats? He had a slow start. His last month has been much better.

I was talking crap about McDaniels in previous threads, but he's at least gone on a hot streak if not turned a corner since mid-January.

He's really emerged on offense with Randle out. He's finally rebounding like a guy his size should be. His plus-minus has skyrocketed from super-bad to really good, +8 in games since mid-January (not per-100 #s, just raw plus minus average from games-- probably closer to +11 or +12 per 100). 18ppg in February.

Didn't show much against the Cavs last night though.

The Wolves need to keep McDaniels. They're a solid defensive team with him, they really won't be without him.

I agree. He's worth more to them on the court than he returns in trade. My guess is they kinda hope Randle just opts out and if he opts in, they try and move him for a player making less money.

Depending on this season ends, its also possible I guess they move Gobert and do a soft rebuild around Edwards thought that's harder with all the pick commitments.

Seconded, but if MIN makes him available I'd love to find a deal that works.

If Minnesota could swap him out for a good PG, I would have to listen. Indy fans are going to hate this.

Off season idea:

Indy out: Nembhard + filler
Minn out: McDaniels

You guys can figure out if picks are needed as I always seem to struggle with that

Why for Indy: They get the wing defender they want and move Mathurin to starting SG

Why for Minn they get their future PG

Hate it for Indy because it seems that Haliburton and the offense thrive on having two lead ball handlers/distributors on the court at all time. Putting Mathurin, McDaniels, Turner, and somewhat Siakam makes a rough system where there's no offensive motion so much as just Haliburton running a ton and then sucking oxygen while TJ does the same for 18 minutes a night.

But use some combo of Nesmith, Obi, and Mathurin for McDaniels plus, and I'm definitely with you. The problem is financial. For any hope of keeping Turner, you likely have to cut some salary somewhere, and with Obi/Nesmith making the same as McDaniels next year, it keeps cutting financial flexibility from Indy.

Yeah, Jaden isn't going anywhere unless it's part of a deal for another star (KD this summer?).

The core moving forward is Ant/Jaden/Naz
