Barnes
I have him and Brown neck-and-neck, but I'll go with the younger, cheaper player as having more trade value (but not being better ... yet).

I had to do a double-take on this. Couldn't figure out why you had Harrison rated so highly.

Looks like it’s gonna be Brown. I just can’t agree. I don’t think he’s great enough to justify that contract in this NBA economic environment.
I do like Scottie B a lot, and I considered him, but building around him as an all-around but bricklaying point forward isn’t going to be easy. Doesn’t help that Toronto clearly isn’t doing it correctly, either.
Vote: KD.

Brown 6
LaMelo 2
Barnes 2
Durant 1
Brown wins the last spot. I will post the final list later today and then start worst contracts list next week.

I agree the back end of Brown’s deal may be scary, but we just saw him win Finals MVP as the #1B, he doesn’t have age or injury concerns, and he doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses that prevent you from building around him.
Phoenix easily accepts Brown for KD, Boston doesn’t accept KD for Brown.

That’s a true statement, for sure, but there are “not in a vacuum” reasons that statement is true as well.
Boston doesn’t accept Curry or Maxey for Brown, either, and probably some others listed higher. That doesn’t make Brown top 25 in trade value, however. He fits the role they made for him, they’re defending champs and want to run it back, they don’t need ball handling, they do need play finishers, etc.

Well, that’s just it— Boston wouldn’t consider trading Brown. Phoenix considered trading KD for Jimmy Butler.

With the expected cap increases he won’t be one of the highest paid 20 players in the back end of the contract.

No, that’s not “just it”. That’s not the exercise we’re doing. Most of these guys won’t get traded, after all. But if they were, who fetches more with no current team/teammate variables considered? That’s the exercise.
If you think that’s Brown over KD, I have no problem with that.

It's very relevant to the exercise. The circumstances in which KD is available involve a team where they mostly have the pieces where they should be competitive, but aren't. If he was valuable they never would've opened the door to trading for Butler, full stop.
KD also only has a limited timeline which only works on a contender. He's got two years on his contract and is a threat to decline, leave in free agency, or retire. When you pay for KD you're paying for current performance, when you pay for Brown you're paying for current and future performance.
KD's also never been a real leader of his locker room. He stopped waiting on OKC. He flaked on Golden State. He watched Brooklyn and now Phoenix fail to gel as a team and implode. It's a risk to add him to a young group to bring them to the next level.
All of these are reasons he was (and will again be) available from Phoenix.
