Bulls - Raptors (RJ to Chicago)

Raptors trade:
Barrett

Bulls trade:
Vucevic
2027, 2028, 2029 2nds

The Raptors need to make space for Agbaji's next contract. They will replace RJs offense with Ingram. The Raptors also need to get cheap rotation players from the 2nd round to subsidize their expensive starting line up.

The Bulls take a flyer on an improved Barrett. He's grown on the Raptors as a shooter, passer and there's a chance that trajectory continues. He's on a decent contract but he'll look for 35M+ AAV for his next deal and the Raptors can't afford it.

I think Chicago will finally move on from Vuc in the offseason for some meager 2nds. I think they are just at the beginning a rebuild, Barrett will put up some numbers but who cares with you are winning 15 games. I wouldn't waste any draft capital on him.

Why would the Bulls pay multiple 2nds to get off an expiring contract?

Barrett is better than Vucevic and he's not being sold for free.

I would do this from CHI perspective. Depending on what happens in the draft first, though.

He's expiring........we'd just let him expire than attach picks to get rid of him.

There's no incentive to take on Barrett who isn't good.

Because the Bulls aren't good and need young talent.

He is not very good or they would have more wins

By that logic everyone on the Bulls sucks and has no value. RJ doesn't suck he's one of the better scorers in the league and he has value in his potential.

Because he's 24 and the hope is he continues to develop. Obviously overpaid but only 2 years left after this season. For Vuc expiring and 2nd's that isn't a lot to lose.

That works for the Bulls, if they have those SRP's. You should have come with this at the deadline.

Barrett to me is very much like Zach Lavine maybe a better passer and defender same length of contract, but mainly half the price leaving cap space to get other players. The Bulls then have 5-6 guards, many on expiring contracts to trade, but they'll do it.

But see at NBA basketball, Vuc is very clearly the better player. So you have that backwards. You have the worse player on the worse contract getting incentive.

Thats generally not how it works, though super cool if your team can pull it off.

Barrett is a young talented piece while Vucevic has already aged out. Vucevic's only value comes from being an expiring contract.

Oh I see I see. Let's compare:

Vuc 54 games(starts) 32 mpg 19/10/4 2 stocks on 54/38/81 and a +1.5 on a team with a -4.5 only has value as an expiring, but...

RJ 42 games(starts) 33 mpg 21/7/6 on 47/35/65 1 stocks and a -9.2 on a team with a -5.9 is valuable?

Yeah unless its 1984 and we only look at box score totals and not any kind of effectiveness, Vuc is having a better season.

Please stop asking the Bulls to send assets for RJ Barrett because he might become more than a volume chucker at some unspecified future time. If the Raptors are motivated to make space for Agbaji (not sure this is true btw) they can send incentive Chicago's way.

Do you seriously believe Vucevic is having a breakout season at 34 years old?

RJ hasn't been playing the role he was brought in for because the Raptors are the most injured team in the league this year. They are also focused on "rebuilding" which is the corporate word for tanking.

https://craftednba.com/players/nikola-vucevic

He's one of the worst C defenders in the NBA.

https://www.espn.com/nba/player/splits/_/id/6478/nikola-vucevic

LOL he was on an unsustained heater in the last 20 games he back to his averages and shooting 26-30%.

Conclusively Vucevic's value comes from being an expiring 34 year old.

Cool cool, Chicago should have zero interest in paying to help the Raps with their payroll issue. And certainly no interest in turning a good player into just an expiring player.

But luckily for Toronto all their players are amazing despite the record not being. But that is just them playing chess.

where did you get those on-off numbers? on BRef Barrett's on-off is +5.1 (On-court is -3.6). Vucevic's on-off is -1.2 (on-court is -4.7). Or were those numbers supposed to mean something else.

I agree Vuc has been playing better this year and Chicago wouldn't/shouldn't entertain OP though

You don't suddenly get better at 34!
