Bulls /Hornets..Mark Williams to Chicago
HORNETS
In:J Smith/Blazers FRP(lot pro)
Out:M.Williams
After what happened at the deadline, I think it's best for Williams and the Hornets to part ways.
BULLS
In: Williams
Out:J.Smith/Blazers FRP
At the beginning of their rebuild, they can take risks... they get the youngest player with the highest ceiling.

Hornets have C2 in Diabaté, plus Nurkic.
There's a bridge to see Mark to his restricted free agency.
This return is far off the Lakers package.

Re: Bulls /Hornets..Mark Williams to Chicago
Is the gross return somehow related to the fact that the most Center-desperate, win-now team in the league wouldn't take him? How is his value untarnished by the medical evaluation?
I'm a fan of his and it's tragic, but there's obviously some serious damage.

That’s why I need to see how he returns first. There are so many theories that he’s dying, crippled hating Charlotte. None with any real evidence apart from the vague reporting on medical reasons.
He needs to come back and play to rebuild his value.

Hornets set a precedent on the return.
Why would they back down? Having established a precedent, I'd keep demanding an overpay.
Not this.

Off the Bulls roster, I'd do Green + 2026 1st via Suns deal for Ayo + Jalen Smith.
Bulls can add to their rebuild draft capital stock.

Re: Bulls /Hornets..Mark Williams to Chicago
The Bulls are trying (HARD) to move an expiring Vuxevic, that leaves Smith as the likely starter and Zach Collins, good would be adding Williams and keeping Smith who they could even play together, not to give up that imaginary pick to make a small overall upgrade. If Williams is declared healthy no way the Hornets settle for Smith not a proven starter yet
The Bulls aren't tanking to give up two of their young with futures top 7 rotation players for Green who is nothing on a long contract and who knows where that PHO picks ends up.

They is a huge gap between he ain’t worth the what the lakers sent if injured and what is being sent now.
Trade happened at deadline. Didn’t give either time to renegotiate a new deal.

Re: Bulls /Hornets..Mark Williams to Chicago
It's just my opinion... (I don't blame the HORNETS) but they made it clear to the league and to Williams that he is far from being an essential piece for them... I mean they had no need for a selection in 6 years (when they already have several from other teams) a change of selection that most likely won't even be transmitted in 5 years and a prospect whose main attraction is that he can help win now, on a rookie contract... I think that relationship of trust is broken.MasterIchiro wrote:Skybox wrote:Is the gross return somehow related to the fact that the most Center-desperate, win-now team in the league wouldn't take him? Not this.
I'm not saying they should accept this offer... I just think that relationship is broken.

That ship has sailed, it was an overpay to begin with and with everything that happened they're not going to get anywhere near that haul. Are the Hornets ready to offer Mark Williams an extension in line with their valuation of him? If not, things are not going to get better... it's probably best for all parties involved that Mark Williams finds a new home.

Re: Bulls /Hornets..Mark Williams to Chicago
Hornets decline trash offers and keep Mark to see if he can continue developing. We have his RFA rights for quite some time. Lakers were willing to overpay for him and that's what it would take to pry him off the Hornets.

By "all parties involved" you seems to be excluding the Hornets Organization. It is not best for the Hornets to sell low on Mark. The best thing for the Hornets and Mark Williams is to see him return to uniform, play the rest of the season with health and numbers, and then try to seek an extension that benefits both side.
Its not the Hornets fault that the Lakers got cold feet

Re: Bulls /Hornets..Mark Williams to Chicago
We’ve seen trades rescinded for physicals before. It happens. We’ve often seen that player either re traded again soon, or expire and walk in free agency.
We’ve never seen a guy “re traded” after a failed physical for equal or more value. I think the chance for Charlotte to get good value as they once had is solely if they sign Mark long term and keep playing him and he’s healthy for multiple years, and he’s traded later on. But if something happens this summer? Or in next year? I don’t see huge value.

No one is trading for Mark Williams, at least not for anything the Hornets should accept, until he's played 30 games without incident.
There are too many questions around his health status.

Of course...it's not like the Lakers weren't devastated with the outcome. He was the missing piece and they solved their glaring problem. By rescinding the deal, the Lakers obviously took a huge chunk out of their playoff ceiling this year. If it was something they could try to live with - they would have.

This return is far off the Lakers package.
I mean, an offseason trade gives his new team one less season with him under contract and it will be made with the backdrop that another team flunked him on his physical. If he is dealt this offseason, the return SHOULD be projected a ways off from the LAL package.

I'm sticking with sticker price. Tell me why I have to move my starting center, again?

You don't have to trade him. That's not my point.
My point is that the sticker price isn't a viable comparison anymore. Even ignore the health stuff... the sticker price you're referring to from the deadline was for 1.5 seasons of mark Williams and 2 playoff runs. This offseason, it will be for just one season and one playoff run. You're no longer trading the same asset. 1.0 seasons is different than 1.5. Give up less, get less. The health stuff will be more team to team, but it obviously is going to paint a cloud of negativity over him.
The LAL offer can no longer be a strict comparison like you're making it though, mostly on account of one less year of play you're trading away.

When? It's happened like 2-3 times in the last 20 years that I can think of and the most significant name in those instances was Gary Payton II and I guess Tyson Chandler. Not exactly a large sample size to base off of.
