Chicago & Philadelphia: Podcast P & picks to the Bulls for Expirings

Post#1 » by drosestruts » Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:57 pm

The Bulls have $85mm in expiring contracts next season. A smart team would use them to take on salary and picks. I propose they do just that by taking on Paul George.

Chicago in: Paul George, 2026 1st (Philly should have two), and the 2028 LAC 1st

Philly in: Coby White, Kevin Huerter, Zach Collins, and Jevon Carter

Chicago:

Giddey/Ayo
Ball/Terry
George/Williams
Buzelis/Phillips
Vucevic/Smith

Is Paul George washed or is Philly just been a bad fit? It's an expensive question, but the Bulls aim to find out. For their troubles they receive 2 future 1sts. Worst case scenrio George can hopefully pass some knowledge onto Buzelis and Williams. Best case scenario he has a bounce-back season and provides the Bulls a great two-way wing.

76ers:

Maxey/Carter
White/McCain
Grimes/Huerter
OubreYabusele/
Embiid/Drummond/Collins

76ers get off George's contract for all expirings. Coby White could be a player they intend to keep around so it's not a pure salary dump.

Would the 76ers trade these picks to get off of George's deal? Do you think it would be smart for Chicago to take on George's money in exchange for these picks? Is it crazy to dream of a bounce-back year for PG13?

Sixers say no.

First off, Morey is going to run this mess all back next year and just blame injuries.

If they suck again next year, which is a real possibility, PG only has two years left at that point and not giving two 1sts to dump him.

Anyway, revisit this a year from now if the Sixers suck again.

Even if he is washed and not just going through an injury plagued rough first season with the team... Why would the team pay all that to get off his deal for expirings? If they rebuild, clearly the picks would carry more weight than having a cleaner cap sheet.

Also, the Sixers don't have 2 2026 picks. They traded the OKC one at the trade deadline.

There is just no chance Philly sense 2 picks to get off Paul George after 1 season.

These types of salary dumps don't happen in the modern NBA, and for good reason. Typically a team is better off not sinking assets to dump an already poor asset.

Now, if Chicago wanted to roll the dice and turn their heaping, stinky pile of useless expiring (Huerter, Collins, Carter, + filler) into Paul George and hope he can re-coup his value, then the 76ers may have interest.

As it stands, these deals are dead on arrival to a forum board in the modern game.

I would want a lot more than two crappy picks to feed Paul George's great grandchildren for three seasons.

The Sixers won't do this anyway but the value isn't good enough.

If they’re taking on Paul George I feel like Pat Williams has to be involved, especially if Coby White is in the trade.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Ignoring Philly doesn’t have two 2026 firsts (and might not have on if they keep their 2025 first)

The problem is they likely feel McCain will be a good second guard next season and will want to find a third guard that fits better off of him and Maxey. And that’s not Coby.

I think Philly is one of the most interesting teams in the league though. If they don’t keep their pick, I could easily see them looking at Paul George deals this offseason and let Joel recover and go into 2026-2027 with a young core and Joel..

If they do keep their pick, they owe a top 4 protected 2026 first and the OP doesn’t make much sense for trying to be as good as possible without Joel for (at least) a lot of the season..

Just don’t see it for Philly.

The Bulls will still be paying PG by the time that 28 draft pick gets used, this puts them in an even worse position than they were before they traded Zach Lavine. They're still going to try to trade Vucevic so they're going to have a rebuilding effort weighed down by a $50M and aging PG.

Just No
