Part II: PHI - SAC (Paul George to SAC)
—————————
PHI GETS: Zach LaVine
PHI GIVES: Paul George & 2029 PHI 1st (Unprotected)
WHY FOR PHI? The 76ers swap George for LaVine who may be able to be a better 3rd scoring option for them with George’s recent offensive decline. They also save $4-5 mil a year since LaVine doesn’t make as much which should help them fill out the rest of their roster while remaining under the 1st apron. But not only is LaVine’s deal cheaper, it has 1 less year on the deal (which means they don’t have to worry about paying George when he is 37-38 years old).
PG - Maxey / McCain / Butler
SG - LaVine / Gordon / Walker
SF - Oubre / Edwards / Council
PF -
C - Embiid / Drummond / Bona
—————————
SAC Gets: Paul George & 2029 PHI 1st (Unprotected)
SAC Gives: Zach LaVine
Why for SAC? The Kings take on the worser contract, but on paper, George’s fit with the roster is much better as he gives the Kings some much needed size, length, and defense on the wing while at the same time being able to space the floor, score and make plays for others. The trade also frees up Ellis to start & close games at SG (which will be great for their defense).
PG - Monk
SG - Ellis / Carter
SF - George / DeRozan
PF - Murray
C - Sabonis / Valanciunas

I think it's a pretty fair and well reasoned trade.

Think there is enough on both sides to have a little bit of fear, but from the Kings you do it and hope PG13 isn't completely done otherwise its a lot of money for an assistant playing coach.

Yeah, the Kings should do this because if LaVine gets hurt in 2025-26 and George returns to 75-80% of the guy he was then that changes the trade values of each player very quickly.

And if George does get hurt and misses time, the Kings at least still have DeRozan to slot in at starting SF.

Yeah absolutely. Probably can't really trust either guy health wise. I would put money on the younger guy if I had to though, but I agree with your point that trade value could swing by mid next season.

As a Sixers fan, I love that we are getting rid of PG who has not fit in with our team. We also are getting a younger player in LaVine (by about five years) who has one fewer year on his contract. The risk is that the Sixers may very well stink in 2029 and they could be handing over something quite hefty in that respect. Maybe Philly asks for top three protection.

Yeah I don't think some protection on the pick would be out of the question.

Re: Part II: PHI - SAC (Paul George to SAC)
The Kings targeted LaVine because he’s a better player than Fox- Curry efficient scorer
He’s not leaving
And it shouldn’t have to be said George is a terrible contract

Not giving a first to dump PG. The team sucks, and appears that they will suck for the time being, so his salary is irrelevant.

You're not just dumping george though, you're getting back a much more productive player

LaVine was negative less than a year ago. Also the Sixers already have Maxey and McCain. And again, this team is going to suck for a couple years here now. So Zach holds little interest to the Sixers IMO.

Yeah I don't think some protection on the pick would be out of the question.
Out of the question I’d hope. This move is for the pick. PG is just cover and salary.
For me, this move is followed by trading either Sabonis-picks based package or Murray-picks based package, with DDR available along with other assets…for a franchise piece. The next generation of Kings, it’s the only way Monte survives a rebuild IMO or he is pair Sabonis with a true number one.

You can still do both. Think this kind of a trade gives you a dual runway.
Option 1 - You got out of Lavine and got a pick and a higher upside player in PG13.
Option 2 - You got out of Lavine and got a pick but have to pay a guy another year.
If option 1 does indeed come off the follow up moves don't matter in your thought.
If option 2 does come off then yes, you can rebuild and take on contracts that line up with PG13, gain cap flexibility after that and drive hard into a full on rebuild.
Oh, and Monte isn't surviving this season and trade deadline train wreck. He is OUT.

Re: Part II: PHI - SAC (Paul George to SAC)
I think Philly should, just to save face, ask for top 1 protection (ie, no matter much they suck, it’s only going to matter 14% of the time or less).
Otherwise, I kinda like it. It’s clear that PG in Philly is a frikkin disaster.
