Kings/Blazers change of course

KINGS
In:S.Henderson/D.Clingan/K.Murray/Ayton/Blazers 25(Top 3 prot)
Out:Monk/Sabonis
The Kings will almost certainly miss the playoffs (again).. receive a rebuilding package and start over... after this trade the next step is to find a new home for Lavine/DDR/Jonás and ideally Ayton (even though he is expiring) and get something in return or at least have their contracts expire
new core Future...
Scott/Ellis/Murray/LaRavia*/Clingan
Carter/FRP Blazers/Murray...
BLAZERS
In:Sabonis/Monk
Out:Scoot/Clingan/Murray/Ayton/FRP25
The Blazers are a team on the rise and their next picks probably won't be very high anymore. So they get a star with the added bonus that he's a local kid and they have the pieces to surround him perfectly.
Blocker and rim protector in R. Williams to accompany or back up Domantas. Powerful wings that can play elite defense (Camara/Grant/Avdija) dynamic guards, who can score (Sharpe/Simmons) and they bring in the player who has the best chemistry with Sabonis, in Monk...
They form a young team, with a lot of room for improvement and good depth.
thinking about value and direction

Monk and Sabonis are very good players, and this is creative -- it builds around the Blazers' strength at the forward spots. But the backcourt is still a mess, and as good as that frontcourt becomes, I honestly think the resulting team still goes nowhere. Portland needs to wait until it has a worthy core to try adding a major piece to it.

Don’t love this aggressive move for Portland personally. But if you’re doing it, IMO you need to have a trade lined up to upgrade Simons. Portland would still have the draft capital to do that. And Sharpe/Monk would be really good 2nd/3rd guards. I just don’t buy Simons anymore.
I can’t see Sac actually rebuilding, expect them to trade offense for defense this offseason and try again next year.
The flip side of the OP is Demar and 3 firsts for Deni and Timelord. Probably need to include another body, but feels like a deal to be made there.
Or Thybulle/Timelord for Demar, where Portland hopes Demar helps the kids to the play-in next season without impacting their assets?
Or just back to Grant/Demar. Though that looks less good for Sac atp

I like your DDR idea for Grant.. something like
KINGS
In:J.Grant/Reath+2/3 SRP
Out:DDR/Valanciunas
for eating the extra year and the higher salary (Blazers can recover the assets later by changing back to DDR)
BLAZERS
In:DDR/Jonas
Out:Grant/Reath/2 or 3 SRP
Blazers send Valanciunas to someone's cap space (or the non-taxpayer mid-level exception that needs a big Warriors/Rockets? or for some expiring contract)..
then move Lonzo into cap space.. sending the Blazers SRPs..plus some of my own
Lonzo/Lavine/Murray/Grant/Sabonis
Monk/Carter/Ellis/LaRavia?/Reath
It seems like a more coherent and balanced team (although with a very marked ceiling)

The Kings absolutely should not swap DeRozan for Grant.

POR isn’t good enough to make this kind of a move.

To the original, Unless there are a few more win right F'n now trades I don't see PORT giving up 3 young guys and a pick for a pair of expensive veterans. If they aren't hoisting the Larry trophy they're sunk for a decade. And where are the Bulls showing up with a gift wrapped Lonzo Ball for junk picks when he's looking like a piece going forward for them, the Bulls don't even answer the phone unless it for those restrictions on the PORT lick to be eliminated
to the 2nd, If PORT really wanted DeRozan and a big slow center they could have called the Bulls two summers back, last years deadline or during last summer and made an easy deal

Zero chance Portland comes off Scoot or DC. Sabas Jr isn’t gonna be more than a stat padder in Portland.
Not a good combo of trade partners

If PDX had a real #1 type talent this deal would make sense. But it just swaps one type of treadmill for another IMO.

Portland is my #1 team for Sabonis in the off-season if the Kings decide to tear it down (they won't)
Camara, Deni, Grant as the forwards next to him is the perfect combination.
Sabonis/RWIII
Grant
Camara/Deni
Sharpe/Monk
Simons/Banton
And they would still have Thybulle, RWIII, Grant, Simons as large salaries to address a long term point guard or other positions of need. This would be splash 1 of 2. If Lamelo becomes available they could put together a heavy picks package to go after someone like that.

I would probably move Sharpe + 2025 FRP for Sabonis. Monk doesnt have to be in the mix.
Sabonis for Ayton + Sharpe + PDX 2025 FRP.

I wouldn’t make any of these moves for Sabonis. POR us too far from relevance to invest in a guy like him, especially including FRP.

These moves makes make POR a first round out for a couple years before rebuilding again around a star draftee.

That would be an absolute disaster tanking for several years trading away dame and then cashing in for Sabonis (who i love). The blazers need to completely bottom out and get as many picks as possible. I fear this is something cronin would do though.

I still really like the base of this, although I would change a few things. Sabonis for Grant/Clingan/Scoott... The Kings, with all the offensive firepower they have and players who are better with the ball in their hands, would be a better fit for a classic rim protector. They also get a 4 to boost the wings (and move Murray more to the 3) and a pure point guard (who they lost in the Fox trade).
Scott/Monk/Carter
Lavine/Ellis
Murray/DDR
Grant/LaRavia
Clingan/JV
With the Blazers taking a step forward this season, their days of picking at the top of the draft are probably over. They get a homegrown star, and the upgrade would come from internal development or a future trade.

I think this messes up depth too much to keep Portland good enough around Sabonis. I’d consider this if there is a way to keep Scoot, like 3 1sts instead of 1st + Scoot with some light protections on the firsts.

I agree with the really like the base of this, but there is no way the Kings do that. You would need to add in the '25 pick and at least another 1st.
With the other proposal the team got the expiring money of Ayton, but no way they deal Sabonis while taking all that money back for Grant.

Pass for POR.
Too much.

I definitely agree that Ayton makes more sense than Grant in terms of salary matching paths for a potential trade. Teams giving up stars usually get more expirers than bad long term salary, plus roster wise it makes little sense to have Sabonis and Ayton on the same team. Yes, I’d rather shed Grant for the Blazers, but not if it costs additional assets, plus there may be less rush to trade Grant if we truly move into win now mode.
