Bulls/Mavs off season

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Thu Feb 27, 2025 7:13 am

BULLS
In: Gafford/Hardy/FRP25
Out:Lonzo/J Smith /SRP25

Giddey improving by leaps and bounds, the Bulls get him an elite PnR partner to bring out his best virtues who would also be by far his best rim protector and shot blocker
+ get a FRP

MAVS
In:Lonzo/Smith /SRP25
Out: Gafford/Hardy/FRP25

The Mavs get a big, very good playmaking and 3D guard to pair with KI, who is in his prime as a pure scorer. They also diversify their big rotation, adding Smith who can spread the floor a bit and facilitate AD at the 4.

I think the value on the court would be even, the inclusion of the selections would be because the Bulls players have extra years and have good contracts.

I like it but I also don't like it.

The Giddey/Lonzo pairing is fun and they play well together and Smith has been very good.

I like adding Gafford to Giddey, gives him a lot threat.

The first round pick is also good for the Bulls.

Haven't really paid attention to Hardy.

I'm torn.

Maybe send Powell+O-Max too..where both teams keep their picks and the Bulls send Vuc and keep Smith

As I don’t really expect Dallas to make it out of the play in, I don’t think Dallas should trade the pick for this..

Think my offer for Lonzo would be.. Klay and the “2029 LAL top 8 protected, if not 2030 Dallas top 4 protected”…? Don’t know if that’s a bad idea or value value. But yeah, I would rather keep pick 13-14 and Gafford here.

Not prepared to give a first and Gafford for Lonzo. If I knew he could stay healthy, sure, but... Dallas is already too dependent on injury prone players. Can't be investing more assets into another one.

Giddey is on quite a streak, many a RF has gone wild looking for a bigger contract. Right now if the Bulls can trade the surplus of guards the keepers in my mind are Ball, Giiddey, Huerter and Jones. Most of who the Bulls have are good at one or two aspects of the game but don't excel at more than one. Huerter can shoot, pass and defend with size and with all the switching the Bulls do that matters. Jones defends the length of the floor, runs the offense and even gets to the basket. Giddey isn't great on defense but he plays downhill, is shooting the 3 better, rebounds and passes the ball. Lonzo is the best defender they've got, passes the ball shoots the 3 and more than anyone they've had playing o the past 5 years is a team leader. In the same context, the only reason Hardy would be a keeper would be a too long contract

Ball or Hardy, come on.

Yes Gafford runs the floor protects the rim and rebounds his shooting range is about 5 feet. The Bulls don't have enough shooters to compensate for a starting center who can't stretch the floor. Smith can shoot the 3, plays solid defense, rebounds and plays within the offense. There's no reason for the Bulls to want to switch. The Bulls would have to clear several veterans to have room on the roster and playing time for any late 1st round draft pick.

yes i understand..but aren't the Bulls rebuilding??.. according to your narrative, how would you justify trading Lavine?... in my mind the goal of this trade for the Bulls is to be better long term...not better next year.. This trade gives them a complement to Giddey (an archetype they lack) to develop their best basketball, a locked in long term prospect (yes he's mediocre but could develop into a rotation player) and most of all ..another draft asset...what's the problem if they get worse on the court next year??a better draft pick??isn't that the goal of rebuilding?

I'm sorry but Huerter and Jones are nothing more than contracts, they aren't keepers.

Also we're rebuilding as you've been told before, if anyone offers a 1st round pick for Ball you take it.

I get the Gafford for Lonzo swap...but I don't see that DAL adds draft equity to do it. Smith isn't enough to warrant that and just because Lonzo signed an extension doesn't mean his health issues are gone. I like Lonzo a lot and Kidd would be THE mentor for him. Plus, he's good enough off-ball to play some with Kyrie...but Gafford, imo, is still more valuable.
