Mark Williams for Gradey Dick
What would the Hornets need to add to make the value equal?
Poeltl / Williams
Barnes / Mogbo
Ingram / Agbaji
Barrett / Walter
IQ / Jakucionis / Shead
Nurkic / Diabate
Bridges / Salaun
Flagg / Green
Dick / Smith
Ball / Payton
They almost traded for Knecht so I guess they're looking for a shooter. Dick is younger and has shown more at the NBA level than Knecht. The Raptors would probably want the Mavs 1st but the value on that is probably a lot higher now that Luka is gone.

Interesting comparison in OP.
I wonder who has more value, Dick or Knecht?
And remember it was Dick+LAL31FRP+LAL30swap

Re: Mark Williams for Gradey Dick
I think this is a classic both teams pass because they like their player more. Toronto is among the worst 3 point shooting teams both in attempts and makes we are second to last in both. Take one of your better shooters off and your dead last in both categories. As for Knecht vs Gradey in value LA clearly was overpaying because they wanted to finish their roster and had limited assets to move.
Found this article pretty interesting about Williams https://swarmandsting.com/hornets-must-make-painfully-obvious-mark-williams-decision-offseason

Re: Mark Williams for Gradey Dick
If Williams can stay healthy coming off the bench, then I'd rather have Williams than Dick or Knecht.

Re: Mark Williams for Gradey Dick
Mark is probably very availiable this summer, but I don't see the Hornets moving him without getting at least one future first that is very lightly protected. Knect and Dick are close enough in value.
Mark put up 26 and 16 last night in 25 minutes. He is inconsistent like other young players, but still putting up good stats overall for a 23 year old big. The injury stuff seems to be BS. He is playing games right now.

I like Mark's potential..but his defense needs a lot of work..it's pretty terrible..Moses Brown did 20/11 in the same minutesGoBobs wrote:Mark is probably very availiable this summer, but I don't see the Hornets moving him without getting at least one future first that is very lightly protected. Re: Mark Williams for Gradey Dick
I mean Williams did just get traded for a lot more value than Dick. So I would have Toronto being the team who owed value. But with Poeltl in place no reason for them to pay the going rate for Williams and his injury risk.
But no reason for Charlotte to entertain the OP even before you ask them to pay for the swap.

Agreed. There is no chance that Charlotte is adding value to turn Mark into Gradey Dick IMO, and I don't think there's a chance that they do the deal straight up either. Not a knock on Dick, I just think moving Mark was interesting because of the combination of draft capital and a prospect they liked. I don't think they would switch Mark for Knecht straight up either.

I have the Raptors as the ones needing to add value here.

Only way I see Charlotte being interested in this is if they fall out of the top-3 and think Maluach is the BPA.

Maybe he means adding Grant Williams, Jusuf Nurkic and Josh Green?

Re: Mark Williams for Gradey Dick
The Raptors need to add value to a guy who failed a physical and has injury issues? I don't think so.
The Hornets were overpaid in that trade due to the Lakers desperately looking for a C. The Raptors aren't in that position.
Gradey is scoring the most behind Wemby from his draft class. He's shown he's more than a shooter and he's improving rapidly. The Raptors front office, one of the best in the league, labeled him "untouchable" for a reason.

No he didn't, or he'd be wearing a Lakers jersey. Whether there's a real medical issue or the Lakers got cold feet, it's an inequivocal sign that's not Mark Williams true market value, probably a desperate last minute attempt at getting someone who'd fit Luka in order to make a postseason run, followed by buyer's remorse. I think the Hornets at least consider this framework, give or take a minor asset. Raptors wouldn't.

No citation needed just common sense.
No American wanted to play there, lost every all star they had before Lowry/DeRozan, small market with no national games, and yet they drafted well and traded better.
How does a team with those issues build a championship?
A good front office

Lost FVV for nothing. Waited too long to sell on Siakam and OG and got cents on the dollar. Overpaid Quickley and soon Ingram. Didn't really hit a draft home run in a while (Barnes and Dick are good picks for their positions, but you can argue better players went after them). Really wouldn't brag about the Raptors FO recent track record.

I agree its not his market value. Though I think its silly to imply Lakers cold feet. They wanted the player. But it should shock nobody a Mark Williams physical revealed stuff they weren't comfortable with.
But they moved him for what we all thought was an overpay. Can't see why they would move him for a lower ceiling shooter. Should absolutely keep him and hope for the best health wise. You can find shooters cheap in free agency every single year.

FVV:
They made a good decision in letting him walk, he's blocking development in Houston now.
Siakam/OG:
The returns look great they got Agbaji, Walter, and Ingram as a result of the Siakam trade. In terms of OG they got two high quality starters for a single starter. There's a sound argument that IQ has more all star potential than OG does too.
Draft home runs:
They picked up several good role players and plugged them into their development pipeline. Shead, Mogbo, Battle, Walter, and Chomche all project as good rotation pieces. They'll have a strong bench soon as a result of this and be able to rest their starters for a playoff run.
Barnes:
He was the ROTY, he's not playing with any all stars or great defensive players. He carries the load on defense and he's being played to his weakness. The Raptors don't have a lot of spacing for him to work with. Who do you think is better than him and projects to be a core piece on a championship team?
The Raptors front office is doing what they can with what they have. They're hitting on their 2nd round picks and picking up great defensive pieces to put together a culture, they understand free agency sucks for a non-American market and played the 'pre-free agency' game at the deadline.
If their moves are bad what could they realistically do better? Hind sight is 20/20 but moving forward what exactly should they be doing? They are tanking and gearing up for the following year. Should they do a multi year tank?

Dick filling the role of Knecht + a future Raptor 1st, protected of course because they don’t have Luka over there as implied protection like the Lakers did
Hornets aren’t gonna hose themselves for Gradey Dick just because the Lakers got cold feet lol, they can match the offer or stick with their guy.
